Default 1994 Electra Glide Rear Suspension

G'day all,

Im writing from Adelaide, South Australia.

I have just purchased a 1994 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic... not knowing much about these models (have a 10 soft tail) I thought id ask my questions here!!

I purchased it from a salvage auction and it needs a new rear rim...

Will a 1997 Road King Rim fit? It appears to be the same pattern etc...

Also, the rear end is on the ground... the shockers/suspension is fully compressed is this an issue or something that will rectify itself when it going?

Many Thanks

Alex.

The wheel will fit, both years used same wheel. I'd pull the shocks, test and replace if needed. Shouldn't be "on the ground."

Thanks for the info regarding the wheel, will be picking up the replacement shortly!

Yeah with the rear shocks they are completely compressed!? whether this has happened due to accident damage or they leak or something I don't know as I am not at all familiar with them.

I've attached a photo of it showing how low it is sitting!

Cheers

From your photo it looks like something is broken/missing.
The shocks are one possibility. Is the existing wheel damaged to the point where it could be causing the issue? Take a bag off and take another photo if you can so we can see the rear suspension.

Hi from the UK and welcome to the wonderful world of HDF and Evos! We have a dedicated Evo forum for your future reference. The other wheel will be fine. As for why your bike is on its knees, you need to start taking stuff off, so we can all see what is going on, as Mathnerd points out.

I'd be surprised if compressed shocks would dump the ***-end that low...

Wonder if it has air ride installed? Gotta take the bags off to check it out. Anxiously waiting to see whats under there...

Looks like flat tire or no tire at all causing that.

Thanks guys, as mentioned the shocks are fully compressed... Plus the tyre is flat!

Wheel is being replaced today so it can be moved around a little easier!! Then the suspension will be looked at!?

It's like they're locked on? They are air...

The angle of the swingarm indicates that the collapsed height of the shocks is shorter than stock, to my eye. Stock shocks when full compression are just over ten inches long IIRC, so let us know what those measure up at. It is possible they are aftermarket air shocks (non-stock). They will have some means of pumping them up (if they still work!) or there may be an electric pump on the bike somewhere, to do that. If you can't quickly solve that puzzle, either find a pair of secondhand shocks, or dump the ones on there and get some decent new ones.
