Ouch! A 2 year old bike with 7,000 miles and a couple thousand in extras takes an $11k hit, makes it more like $13k. Double ouch!!!
Agreed.
I'd keep the 2 year old bike through the end of the season and then sell it myself. This will put more cash in hand. It will also give Harley more time to get bugs out of the Rushmore bikes.
I've test driven a few 2014's and while they are a nice, I'm not
sure about taking the hit on the trade, but I'm also hesitant about
dropping any more money on the 2012.
Curiously, is this personal preference, or has your 2012 become a money pit of problems? 7K is still a baby.

I don't know, bikes don't move well in the off season unless they are a "Great" deal. I sold a 2009 Ultra last November for $15,000, but that was because it was an unusual hard to find color. That guy drove eight hours in a blizzard to pick up that bike.
I checked out two Harley dealerships in Oklahoma City this week and both are willing to give me wholesale Bluebook minus new tires (about $13,500) on my SG with 21000 miles. I felt like that was a fair deal, not great, but fair. I didn't push hard on the Ultra Limited selling price because it got all mixed up in shipping, dealer prep and extended warranty numbers. I knew that I need to be ready to pull the trigger to push for better numbers and I'm not there yet.
Hey, I don't know what your buddy is talking about with the hydraulic clutch, the salesman told me personally that they are much improved over the old clutches. LOL
Talking to sales people wears me out. Its a tribute to this forum that I know more than they do.
I have absolutely no desire to get a Rushmore. I hate the new look. You have a classic bike with only 7k miles. What about the Rushmore appeals to you?
I think he should go ahead and trade the garage queen. I got a bud looking for a nice low mileage bike that mostly sat in the garage for a few years. This one would be a perfect candidate.
