06 SG, engine mangement only through HD?
Hey guys,
I read somewhere before that I have to go to HD and get an update flashed to my stock ECU when making mods.
What happened to the stand alone units like Power Commanders? Can I purchase one and do it myself (much like I have for all my other bikes I've owned). Or is there something different with the 06 EM wise, that doesn't allow me to use a 3rd party EM.
If I can use others, recommendations please?
Also, any recommendations on a new air filter/cleaner? I have a stock one on there now.
Thanks

I had a PC III on my 06 and it worked fine, I think Fuel moto retrofits PCV's for the older bikes as well.
Heres a link to Fuel motos parts list that will fit a 2006 SG

PCIII Is a piggyback module. I had one on my 06 till it caused a no spark situation on my front cylinder.
After that I went Thundermax. Thundermax is a replacement ECM that has wide band O2 sensors that need installed in the head pipes. Upload a base map either from available map, or select options from tables to start a custom map I believe. There was already a base map for my mods so I just pulled if from the existing maps.
It is pricey but it allows changes without another trip to the dyno.
Knowing I plan on doing more upgrades down the road, it was a no brainer for me. I am happy with TM as well as a few friends that have them.

I'd stay away from any HD 'flash' on my ECM - they're just about worthless.
A PCIII is a great module with a terrific reputation. Like anything else, something can go wrong but overall they are one of the best units around.
If you can find a good dyno tech you can have him dial in the 'canned' map installed on the PCIII so you get not only improved power but economy as well.
I've had the same PCIII on my '06 since "07 and it has been trouble free for the duration.
