New K&P oil filter eliminated cold start noise
Hi,
I installed a new K&P oil filter on my 2011 103 Street Glide this weekend. I have always complained about lifter noise on my bike since new. The first thing I noticed after the filter installation is that the noise is GONE now. I also see a small pressure increase at idle and highway RPMs when hot and cold. Anything I can do to improve lubrication on the engine with 52,000 miles make me feel better.

The flow of the oil is from the pump to a bleed off valve limiting pressure below about 35 PSI, past the oil pressure sender, then through the filter.
a higher than "normal" oil pressure reading could indicate a restrictive filter if that is all that has changed....which is far, far different from extra pressure or flow to the working parts of the motor.
or you may be using a higher viscosity oil

The K&P filter is a reusable filter. I have always used Amsoil 20/50 and Amsoil filters. I wish I would have bought the cleanable/reusable filter a long time ago. It flows better and will not bypass like paper filters.

Just got one in Sturgis. Wish I could give the same glowing review. Did not see a decrease in noise, did not see an increase in oil pressure. Don't know about temps as I have no gauge.
At 165.00 it will be 10 oil changes before I recoup my money by not having to buy an HD filter. That is 50,000 miles. Don't know that I'll even have the bike that long.
I even fell for the hype and bought 2, 1 for the triglide. Wish I had got one and tried it before getting the 2nd.
They do look cool though.
