Default 2007 SG randomly stalling out

A few weeks back I went to meet my brother for lunch
and when I turned to go into the parking lot, my 2007
SG just died. I coasted into a parking spot, tried the starter
a few times and nothing. Waited a minute, hit it again
and it fired right up.

At first I thought maybe my key fob battery was low,
but I learned that wouldn't cause the bike to die, but
would prevent it from starting back up.

I did put a new battery in the fob anyway and pretty
much forgot about it. Then last week I went for a ride
and it stalled 3 times on me. When I started thinking
about all the times it stalled, it seemed that it happens
when I'm decelerating and making a right turn. Might
just be a coincidence, I don't know.

I did get an extended warranty when I bought the bike
used from the stealer. I called them and they are going
to pick the bike up on Tuesday and take it back to their
shop. The warranty does NOT cover the diagnostics to
look for the problem. That's a minimum 1 hour at $105 + tax.

If the problem is covered by the warranty, then I have
to pay my $50 deductible. Of course if it's NOT covered
under the warranty, I'm on the hook for the full amount.

I just thought I'd check here and see if anyone else has
had similar problems before. I know when I had stalling
problems on my 2005 Ultra Classic back in 2008, I believe
it was the fuel pump or something else with the fuel injection
system. That cost me $650.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I might troubleshoot?
Figure as long as I have a few days, maybe I can find
out what it is on my own. I do have a service manual for
the bike too.

Thanks in advance for the help!

first thing I would do is clean my battery terminals and cable for tarnish. 2nd, while the cables were disconnected for the cleaning, I'd pull the battery out and get it load tested.

My 08 SG did something similar but didn't stall, it went into limp mode. Turned out to be the servo connector wires that connect to the throttle body. HD diagnosed and corrected the problem by lengthening the wires, which were bent at almost a 90 deg angel. While the outside of the wires look intact, inside the insulation, there were breaks in the connection. ODD for the repair was $137.

It's more than likely the IAC or the TPS. They are both around $40. Might try cleaning the throttle blade first.

First I want to thank you all for your replies. I know it
must get tiring for senior forum members to see the same
questions and problems being posted multiple times.

I guess it never occurred to me that the problem was
pretty well known already and is pretty common on the
2007 96's. My bad!

From now on I will do a general search first to avoid
wasting anyone's time. Again, I really appreciate the
replies in spite of that.

Now that I'm aware of the various causes, my question
would be should I let the stealer take my bike and run
the diagnostics at a minimum cost of $105, or just buy
both the IAC and TPS and install them myself.

Even if they are covered under my extended warranty,
I'll be out another $50 for deductible. Now I'm looking
at $155 minimum.

I do have the service manual for my bike and my only
concern is removing the gas tank. I've read it can be
a bit tricky with the cross over lines.

I definitely need to get it fixed though. I took the bike
out today knowing it would only stall when I come to
a stop and then start back up no problem. Ran pretty
well till I got close to home. Died on me in the turn lane
where I was waiting to go left... it re-fired then stalled
again just as I started to turn and I almost dumped it.
No more riding till I get this fixed.

Thanks again for the all the help on this!

Battery is fully charged and cables are snug.

I've been going through another thread here that
is 41 pages long:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...issues-20.html

I'm leaning towards the IAC Stepper motor as this
seems to be a common problem on the 2007's. I
will clean the port for sure, but from what I've read
that's only a temporary solution. In the end, replacing
it seems to do the trick.

There is also a service bulletin that says to re-flash
the ECM. The bulletin is TT410:

http://www.pdf-archive.com/2011/03/15/tt410/tt410.pdf

In addition to the IAC, some are also replacing the TPS.

I'm going to call the service shop today and confirm they
know about the issue and the service bulletin. If they
don't, it's not leaving my garage.

Greg
