Default Noisy Cam Chest issues

Past couple of days I had some real noisy marble type sound coming from the cam chest on my 07 Ultra with 52k on it and never been opened up. Screwdriver to the ear test lead me to believe something in the front lifters was the issue.

So bad was it I decided to park the bike and open her up. No metal or grit in the oil. Cam, lifters all seem fine when they cam out (no excessive play), cannot really see any scoring nicks etc. I am pretty sure there is no sure fire way to test the lifters out of the bike. Chain tensioners all look OK. While I am no expert on this, I sure hope I am pursuing the right path.

New cam kit from Fuel Moto on the way, with pushrods and lifters etc. I decided to put new HD cam chain tensoners while in there.

Any other thoughts where the marble sound could be coming from? Or am I just being nervous?

I know the older models it was recommend to change the oil pump spring. What about on the 07 and above TCs?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you don't have a broken oil pump gear, or a cam bearing going out.

ive heard comp bolts loosen and make marble sound carried over to cam chest

sounds like your heading in the right direction ,start with upgrades and the simple stuff.

Good point. I did not open up the oil pump. I might as well take a peak while I have it out on the cam plate.

Cam bearings look good. Not sure how I would test them.

Small world on the 52k. Not how I could explain the noise. Sound rational and like metal marbles. I sure up not the compressor. I know my compressor is getting weak and planned on putt in the SE version this winter. I did check for sound on the compressor side, but nothing really.

Screwdriver to one ear will not cut it. The open ear can hear the primary or noise traveling down open exhaust. You need a true mechanics stethoscope to listen.

Replace all of it anyway. Oil pump and bearings so you dont have to come back again in 10k more miles.

yes at 52k and strange noises factoring in your already planning to tare in to it...do it all including exploratory stuff like if you see any of my threads now im doing the inner primary bears..ect. my second comp(se now) is getting louder and looks ok but definitely wearing.I think 07 oil pumps are good, but did the cam bearing,07 lifters are good but if you replace dont use the stock ones(been there).thats all i can think of,hopeing to have another 52k fantastic miles
