We are having trouble with a buddies clutch cable loosening and tightening. We put 10" apes on last winter and add a plus 4" clutch cable. Not sure what brand. Worked fine at first but now it's like the cable is stretching but we are now out of adjustment.

We were 2 hrs from home and he lost all tension. We pull over and put it on the last two threads of adjustment. Still a lot of free play at the lever. But we had to get home. About 5 miles down the road it gets tight and he has no free play.

Do you think the cable is binding somehow or a problem with ***** and ramp or something in the clutch assembly itself?

FWIW when at home we always adjust it at the primary first as instructed in the manual.

 

If it isn't broken, the first place I'd look would be in the derby cover to make sure the adjustment there is still good. 2nd place is the side cover at the ball and ramp.
