Loud backfire BANG! on start
Folks, this happened to me twice in a week, curious to hear your thoughts. Both similar circumstances, in fact it happened in the same location both times.
Details:
Any thoughts on this one?
Details:
- First, I start with a 45 minute ride, starting on suburban surface streets ending on country roads then parked at a restaurant in a small town
- Bike stopped for 45 minutes to an hour while I eat
- I'm done eating, on the first start attempt, bike turns over for a few seconds, then I give up thinking I'll try again. As soon as I let off the starter switch - BANG!, and I mean a LOUD backfire bang (not a compensator bang).
- I wait a couple seconds, try again, starts right up, no issues
The first time it happened, I just chalked it up to a random thing. Then a week later it happened again, also started right up on the 2nd attempt.Any thoughts on this one?

Mine is bone stock and has always done it stock. Did not do it with open python exhaust. For an explosion, it has to be vapor. What I am saying is if there were any wet fuel, it would not do it. So in my mind , it must be a total vapor. Probably couple drops of fuel vaporized by heat. Hit the start and lights it off in exhaust pipes. I left work one night at 12:30AM. Two police were across the street looking down an alley for someone since it appeared something had happened at a corner bar. I hit the starter since and bang. One officer jumped back and almost knocked his partner down who was rolling in laughter. Sure am glad they were laid back . Guess the only real problem is if you have a weak rusty exhaust.
