Default 1984 Harley - Drive Issues

Last week I purchased an old Harley. It’s a 1984 Harley Davidson Softail Standard and I absolutely love it, but I ran into some issues already and that’s probably expected of such an old bike. I took it for a little ride over the weekend about 100 miles from home. On my way back, about 15 miles from home I was starting to accelerate after stopping for fuel. I noticed that as I was at higher RPMs it seemed like the clutch was slipping or maybe the chain was slipping. It does appear my chain is a little loose and I plan on tightening it today or tomorrow. Does anyone have experience with this situation? When I bought the bike, the guy said it had clutches installed recently. Is there a significant difference between the clutch slipping and the chain slipping?

Thanks in advance for any tips or assistance.
