Default Gas fumes when garaged

I have my garage under my house. After a nice long ride, today I did about 200 miles. I refueled around 40 miles before I got home. I put the bike inside, and went upstairs. After 45 minutes or so, I noticed a very heavy gas smell coming up. I went downstairs with a flashlight, no leaks. But heavy fumes. This isn't the first time, it has happened a few times. Ideas?

I dunno. But, my 2012 does it too. Seems to be more when I pull straight into the garage. Not as much if I stop in front of the garage and fumble for thecstarter door opener. My cure has been to leave the door open for awhile.

I believe that after the bike is shut off, the injectors spit a bit of raw fuel causing the odor. I have had the same issue, but have never found a fuel leak. Open the door for a couple of minutes and the odor is gone.

Think about it.

You put 5 gallons of cold gas in a metal container and put it right on top of a very hot motor.

Motor heats gas, fumes have to go somewhere.

That does of course make sense...

However! (Don'tcha hate that word? )

I have noticed the same thing with my 2011 TG when there was no fresh fuel in the tank. Just yesterday we came back from Phx with less than 1/2 tank (I filled up hours earlier in the morning) and still got the odor. It seems to happen 100% of the time if the bike has come to steady-state temps. (IOW - If I ride the 1 mile to the mailbox and back, no odor)

I have a '99 FLSTS that has never done it, with or without a freshly filled tank... Nor has any other bike I ever owned over the past 45+ years done it.

I also leave the garage door open for a while, but I come back hours later and it still smells of gasoline.

Same thing here. We have 13 & 14 TG. Had a 2000 with Champion Kit and don't recall it was a problem.

Normal. Drives wife nuts. Only lasts a few hours.
My theory is the air filter has some fuel in the pleats after a long run which needs to evaporate.

Stinks like gas. Lasts few hours. Then no smell till next long run.

I have the same situation with my TG and SG. Like everyone else, leave the garage open for a few minutes.

If you have no way to exhaust the fumes from your garage, then opening the door is the best way to get rid of them. However, if you have any way to vent those fumes, you won`t smell them. Examples: gas hot water heater in the garage (fumes go out of the flue pipe), attic access ladder (pull down ladder ramp a couple of inches), exhaust fan in window.
