Default 2014 Tri Glide Exhaust

I'm new to the motorcycle/trike thing. I want to install slip on exhaust,I want a nice mellow tone, not loud. Mainly I want to know if I'll need to install/purchase a tuner. What will a tuner do for me, I really don't understand it,any help will be great.

Just adding slip ons to your stock 2014 should not require any tuner mods. Reinhart 4" are very mellow, Screaming eagle street cannons are another good choice. You can core drill your baffles out and keep your stock exhaust. At 6600 miles my 2014 stock exhaust sounds way better than new. I see you are in NE PA .... check out Pocono HD as they advocate Reinharts as their prefered choice. My buddy has the 4" Reinharts on his 2014 ultra classic and they are very mellow. No tuning required on his. Runs and sounds great. He listens to music all the time.

There are many threads here on mufflers!

Welcome from SE PA

We put RUSH slip-ons on the '09 trike, and Reinhardts on the '11. Both sounded great, the Reinhardt mufflers were a tad deeper and louder. In both cases we also added the stage 1 air cleaner. Dealer said a tuner wasn't necessary, he just flashed the computer. 55,000 miles on the '09 when we traded her in for the Freewheeler and 27,000 on the '11. Both were running strong. Good Luck

Wife has Rineharts, friend has Rush, and another friend has Freedom Performance. Of the 3 the Freedom Performance has the deepest sound, but they seem a little louder at highway speeds than the other 2. Rineharts and Rush are both nice, and one time I hear the bikes together I like the Rineharts better, then the next time I hear them I like the Rush better.

After replacing the 2012 Limited that I totaled, I went with the Freedom Performance. I had Rineharts on the 2012, and it is my perception that the Freedom Performance are louder, but they also have a deeper rumble.

My friend with the 2014 Limited with Freedom Performance does not have a tuner or any other mods. His bike runs fine and has no issues. A tuner will give you better fuel mixtures and richen things up a little. These new bikes are so lean from the factory that a tuner will be a plus.

If you go with a tuner, SE air cleaner and mufflers, you are going to gain about 8 HP. On a trike that is a real plus.

Bill

Rush Big Louie's with 3 inch baffles on mine right now. Will be going back to my Fatshotz soon. The Big Louie's are LOUD. I think thye lose some low end torque too being so open with so little back pressure. Heck, tey are just open extensions of the head pipes with baffles around the outside. I can look inside them and see the turn in the left side crossover pipe. I think the Fatshotz might give a little better mileage too. Just a pain in the butt to try to switch them with the RIVCO trailer hitch on and no lift. Thinking about driving the trike up on some car ramps and changing them out.

At the 1K service, I had the dealer install a SE high flow breather, rinehart ovals and did a download. I am very happy, deep but not too loud, hit the throttle and go. Before I did this, taking off was sluggish and there was no top end. It was worth the $$$.

I have a 2014 Tri. I have the Vance & Hines Deluxe slip-ons made for the Triglide. I have a SE air cleaner and the SE Pro Tuner download. The bike sounds good and runs fantastic.

I have the Harley SE Street Cannons on my Trike and SG. They have that deep throaty sound, not too loud(can still hear the radio) and 50 states legal. It is hard to belive these mufflers are 50 states legal since they are straight-thru-mufflers. The dealer stated I did not need ECM calibration if I was only replacing the stock mufflers.
