Default Cigarette Plug--can we use it to power a device??

Hi Guys,

I was reading through the manual and it said that we SHOULD NOT use the cigarette plug to power a device. I was thinking of getting a Sirius radio motorcycle mount. Here is a link to it::

http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/si...cycle-kit-cla/

Was wondering if anyone used the cigarette plug to power a device and or do you have a sirius radio mount installed.

rather go with the mount then to spend $499 plus tax to buy the Sirius adaptor for the stock radio

Thanks again for all your help!

Funny, I was just talking about this in a GoPro thread. I use the cig lighter to power my phone (iPhone 6+) and/or to power my GoPro on longer rides. Never ran the battery down or had any issues.

Yeah...mine has that warning too. No idea why. I use mine to power my iPhone charger. Also, the Garmin Zumo that was installed by a dealer is taped into the plug for power. As long as you don't blow the fuse...mine is a 15A...I don't understand why you can't use it that way.

Btw...I just picked up the power outlet for the Tour Pack., and it came with a 10A fuse. I'm thinking of connecting that direct to battery power so I can charge the phone with the ignition off. If an IPhone can drain the Harley's battery...then we have other issues.

Different bike ('14 Limited), but same idea...

I run an XM Roady 2 off of the cig plug in the front fairing.

Works perfectly.

NO! It is only intended to be a cigarette lighter. Sad thing is there is no ashtray, and if you are caught flicking your ashes, you will be sighted for fire hazard in WI. All joking aside yes this is a normal 12 V outlet and have used them for years to power different devices after I stopped using it to light a cigarette because I received a citation for $275/

They put the warning on the lighters because of litigation. There is a fuse inline that will open if over 5 amps on most units. If you stick a ash crusted lighter into the old ones, they just got stuck and burned off. The new ones don't get that hot and are ***** proof. They blow a fuse if stuck. Bigger devices in the port will also blow that nanny state fuse.

Cigarette lighter and Aux power connector are switch. You won't kill your battery with your Go-Pro, GPS, MP3 or whatever plugged in. I've been doing it for years. Using the battery tender pigtail will discharge your battery over time.
