Default Gas cap

I have a 2016 tri glide with a little over 4000 miles and every time I take the gas cap off for gas it gets harder to thread back on does anyone else have the same problem? Thanks Dan

file the very bottom of the cap down right before where the threads start. two quick laps around the base and it'll fit fine. even sandpaper will work and be sure to clean it well before putting back on. go to the rushmore section, lots of talk about it.

It is under warranty, so the HD dealer should replace it for you free of charge. However so many people are having this issue (myself included) that dealers are usually out of stock.

I ended up spending $5 at Walmart on a Stant model #10834 replacement cap. Works like a charm.

My 2016 FLHTCUL Electra Glide was the same way. Less miles but got harder each time. I stopped by the Dealer and they said there is a problem with a run of the caps and gave me another one. It works fine now.

I'm sure what hardheaded suggested will work fine but if you don't want to do that stop by your Dealer and get one that fits right.

I know the Dealer here in Raleigh is back ordered on caps. They are doing the file fix for those having problems. I had a free rental so I rented a 2016 Tri; when I filled the tank before returning I could not get the cap to screw in. I just handed it to them when I turned it in

Mine was bad for a year or so, but I just kept lining it up and shoving it on there. I kept forgetting to do the fix. Eventually if you fill the tank enough times it just kinda wears in, apparently. Seems to work fine now.

I checked with the dealer and they said they are on back order. I did file it just to get it to go in.
