Default My $2K 20K service

Took my '12 TriGlide in for its 20K service last week. The only complaint I had was that I was seeing a small oil drop on the floor.

Well, some was covered by my ESP, so my out of pocket was only $1,218.

What they did:
- 20K service with Amsoil, HD Formula+, BelRay Tranny...4.2 hours labor: $563.17

- Replaced Rear Lower Rocker Cover Gasket--- covered by ESP

- Replaced Inner Primary Gasket, SE Compensator, Shifter Bushing--- covered by ESP

- Replaced Rear Brakes & Rotors: $564.90. ( was replaced 10K miles ago)

Also, they claim my front pads (Lyndall Gold) need replaced. I ordered replacements, this time Lyndall Extreme, from Amazon..and I'll do that myself. But I'm curious to measure how much pad is remaining.

Already after 300 miles the crappy OEM rear pads have covered my chrome wheels in black dust.

The only thing I really wonder about is why you need new rear brakes and rotors every 10K miles. Something is not right on the bike or in your riding style.

For years now, I've been telling folks to do it yourself if you have any mechanical ability at all. Thank you. You just drove home my point. $563.17 seems excessive for what amounts to a less than complete fluid change. $564.90 is just plain outrageous for a brake job. Sorry that you had to pay for an education. I hope others can learn from your misfortune.

4.2 hours to change the oil? Seems a bit long to me. Am I missing something?

I would have thought that they gave you an upfront price for the 20k service using the fluids mentioned.

They should have contacted you for any additional work at additional cost and it should have been OK'd by you before the work was done.

There should have been no surprise when you picked up the bike.
You should have known exactly what work was done and what was covered by the ESP and what the total cost to you would be, before they did the work.

It's hard to believe that a shop would do all this work without your ok and assume you would pay all that extra cost without checking with you first.

I have to agree with ElectraGlideSteve, I would have asked for an estimate of the cost of the 20,000 miles service when I scheduled and if it was going way over they had better call me in advance if they would want me to pay for it.
