Riding with another TG a couple nights ago, both of us 2-up. I rolled up to a red light and as I got on the brakes there was a squeal, I let off for a second and reapplied and got the squeal again, let off, reapplied and got it again, coming to a stop. It was loud enough for my buddy behind me to holler and ask if the noise was coming from my bike.


We pulled into a parking lot and checked everything over. Couldn't find anything obvious and it hasn't done it since.


The bike seemed to stop okay when the squealing occurred and did not pull to one side or the other. I suspected maybe a small piece of debris got caught someplace and then dislodged but my buddy didn't think so.


Any ideas or has anyone experienced this with a TG?

 

It sounds like the brake pads are worn down. The squeal is a signal to replace the brake pads. The brake pad manufacturers build in a way to alert you that the pads are near the end of their life. Time for new pads, IMHO.

If the pads were worn down enough to squeal why would they not squeal after things were checked ???
The older brakes had a squeal that MOCO helped by replacing the steel rotors with cast rotors. Don't know what they are doing on the new Trikes
Could have just been some heavy dust/dirt on the pads.
Be sure to look at the inside of the rotors to make sure nothing cut a groove.

 

2016 with 5,800 miles, I'm not thinking it was any type of signal to replace the pads yet.


The day after this happen I rode for a few miles locally and everything was good. Got busy with visitors coming in from up north but I will be checking rotors closely.

 

Sometimes a build up of brake dust. Rinse of the rotors and pads. It will probably go away.

 

Unless you ride the breaks a lot, or have been driving around with the parking break on there shouldn't be that much wear to make the breaks squeak.
