So I'm rolling down the street in traffic and I look at the instrument panel to see which gear I'm in, there it is 3, I shift a up a gear, traffic is a little close, I shift down a gear, up 2 gears, down a gear. I look at the dash again, nothing, no gear indication, strange, I shift up and down while holding the clutch in, nothing. hmmm.
I let the clutch out and there it is, i'm in 3rd again.

So anyway, everytime I pull the clutch in, the indicator goes blank. Kinda sucks, what if I am sitting at a light and forgot to shift down to first from 4th, or maybe 5th.

Just something I noticed yesterday.

Nothing to see here.

Literally!

I can't imagine how I've been riding all these years without a little light to tell me what gear I'm in. lol
(sorry, but it's just a little light hearted jab)

Yep, I've often wished it would show what gear I'm in with the clutch pulled in. Not sure why they have it set up that way.

In my younger days I would always downshift thru the gears to first before coming to a stop....not so much anymore on the TG or Softail. On the Sporty, I usually feel more rambunctious and still slow down downshifting.

On the TG, many times I've found I don't remember what gear I'm in when I come to a stop.

It is working the way it is designed. The EMC with the clutch out can calculate the gear by the engine rpm and ground speed. With the clutch in it can't calculate anything.

I so rarely look at the indicator, I just thought it was interesting that it worked that way.

Been riding for decades without a gear indicator, I'll make it a few more years for sure.

This is one of those little question marks in life, kinda like the braille on a drive up ATM machine.

Maybe I should have placed a "this is funny stamp" in the title
