Intercom Issues
I posted this in the New Members section when I first joined, but I thought I would repeat it here as I did not get any answers.
Something unusual happened yesterday. We were traveling about 55mph in 6th gear. Both of us had our intercom plugged in and were listening to the radio. Suddenly, a loud electronic type alarm sounded. It was almost unbearable. I released the throttle and it did not stop. None of my gauges showed anything unusual. It sounded for about 5 seconds and then stopped. A few minutes later, it did it again. This happened three or four times within about 5 minutes. I thought it may be the radio station, but I changed the station and it did not stop.
I went to the local HD dealership and the person I talked to said he had never heard of the particular problem. The service department was not open yesterday so I guess I will have to go back later this week.
Any ideas on what may be causing this problem? The trike performed as normal.
On a side note, the wife's microphone did not work. It was fine Saturday, but would not work yesterday.

I don't even engage sixth gear until I hit 70mph or so. At 55mph in fifth gear, the engine should be turning about 2700-2800rpm, especially pulling a full load.

Just a guess, but if you had the CB radio on someone in the area may have had a base station with a amp, they will cause a very loud squeel or feedback to be transmitted over the air, can really hurt your ears....if the CB was not on, I have no idea, never had that happen to me over the years without the CB radio on....not
Unusual for a person to have a amp hooked up to their mobile CB either....

Thanks for the responses. I am new to the riding community, but my son-in-law has ridden for years. He told me would soon learn that I can get a lot of good information and advice on this forum. So far, he was right.
I am not sure if the CB was on or not. When I started the TG up this afternoon, the CB showed it was off. I guess I could have turned it on accidently as I was trying to adjust the VOX on the intercom. I have not used the CB since getting the trike. I'll hook up the intercom, ride through the same area, and see what happens. Hopefully, that was the problem. If I find out otherwise, I'll post it here.
As for lugging the engine in 6th gear, I'll be more aware of that in the future. The engine was running about 2000 to 2100 rpms so it "sounded" OK.
Thanks again for your input.

Harley engines produce decent torque, so it is possible to run at 2000-2100 rpm. My experience is that my TG seems to run best around 3000 rpm. I usually up shift around 3300 rpm.
At 2000 rpm, my engine isn't responsive enough to deal with speed changes or maneuvers that may be required. I often ride with a few other guys (most on two wheels), and I will need to adjust my speed from time-to-time even if the lead guy has cruise control engaged. I can back off 2900 rpm down to 2200 rpm if needed rather quickly, and spool up again just as quickly without delays and the fuss of shifting up and down repeatedly.
I suggest you try running it a little closer to 3000 rpm, and you'll find your trike much more responsive. YMMV.
