Going to look at a new leftover 2013 with a friend tomorrow

Well,
The deal wasn't as sweet as it appeared. They added $1200 to the price for dealer set up, prep and freight, and really low balled him on his trade. They offered less then NADA trade value, and his bike is low mileage and in pristine condition. Needless to say, he walked away from it.

Typical bait and switch, so in the end he was still asking MSRP from 2013 prices. I would have walked as well. From what I remember the dock fee was $300, and setup was $150 and our dealer waved both in June of 2013, and they had to go and pick up the trike over 100 miles away from another dealer.

Most dealers can't keep enough to even have one for a demo ride, and are frequently sold before getting to the show room. This dealer's action shows why they have a 2 year old new bike.

Seriously though, no harm, no foul, both parties are free to seek a better deal as they wish. Thats how it should work. If say, a down payment were taken, and then surprises ensued, there would be justification in being dissatisfied, to say the very least. Nowhere is it written that you must get the deal you want.

You guys gave up too soon! I've never met a car or motorcycle dealer that didn't come to the bargaining table fat. I've been low balled on every trade in I've brought. I'm sure with a little haggling you could have had that set-up charge and DOC dumped. If they didn't come up on the trade, sell the scoot outright. Hagglin', dealin', and negociatin' is all part of the fun of buying a new toy. Good Luck next time!
