But there was this extra one just hanging out back there, the type that pops.

Yep, I got two of them also with the 14. The old style (pop open) and then the newer Zipper style which is mounted where the older style used to go.

On the 14 there are no studs in the back of the TP to mount the older style to. The zipper style is permanently attached to the TP liner.

I put mine in the zippered pouch for keeping the docs for the law all in one place.

We use our extra pop open to store a couple of pairs of extra gloves

I got the pop-open style as well with my '14 TG. I use the zippered one in the tourpack for the manual and my dacs, and keep the other one in the trunk with some tools...

Has anyone found a location to mount it?

I use the 'pop-open' one to hold my new Progressive Suspension GP3-60 Mini Gauge Pump which is slightly more than half the price of the Harley one, a puncture repair kit, a tyre gauge and some other tools I feel might be useful.

If I felt the need to mount it in the box the obvious place would be on the opposite side to the other one.

fmgsr, I have the same pouch and still haven't found out what it's for. The zippered one for manuals and such is already there and there are no mounting points for the holes on the extra one.

I threw mine on the top shelf of the closet.....

Perhaps Harley had a few left of old style, so they just threw them into the new bikes until all were gone? Now no more storage of old style. Just saying! Or the employees just decided to screw with buyers, and new owners heads on where to put it! I bet they are having a good laugh just reading this
