Default Engine guard install

Installed an engine guard on my 12 NRS yesterday. Usually that is a three bolt quick job on most HD's.

Two hours latter it was on. The directions were worthless to mount the top piece to the front frame. It referred to the service manual which I have. It was useless in the direction for removing the "cosmetic" radiator cover. The way it described it was not possible to do.

Looked at it for awhile and realized that just using a 1" hole saw on the center line about 1" above the top indented grove in the cover would allow the bolt to access the threaded mounting area. But then the tab would not fit. Cutting a V notch from the top to the outer edge of the hole was perfect. Slipped the top piece in bolted it to spec's and the rest of the install went normal.

I put guards on all my bikes just for the purpose of some protection in the garage because I have to move them all the time. Waited four years to get it as the Vrod engine guard is the most expensive one HD makes.

Once on I liked the look of it. I have only seen one other Vrod with the engine guard. That was a couple of years ago at a J&P open house in Anamosa, Ia.

Just what I thought. No one hardly wants or cares for an engine guard on a Vrod.

I had one on My 2012 Special. I liked it for the same reason, to prevent damage on it falling over. The guy I sold it to crashed it before he ever got it home. Saved his leg and some damage.

Not much going on in this section! I'd like to see a picture of it since I just picked up a VRod today!

I just got a v-rod and am thinking of putting an engine guard on it. Do you have any pictures?
