Default Tire pressure

Who here runs the pressures stated in owners manual and FSM versus some higher pressure? In my 2014 sportster I run 32 front and 40 rear.

If you run the same tires that came stock then those pressures are good. But if you change you have to find a new value. I switched to Commander 2's and up'ed the pressure to 40 and 44. Yes I could run less but they feel very stable at that pressure. Lower pressure many complain they feel squirrely.

I still have stock on the rear. Have a commander ii on the front. I will try running a higher pressure and see how it feels.

When using aftermarket tyres always check their website for recommended pressures and use them as a starting point. That gives us a datum from which we make any adjustments we feel are necessary, but don't guess!

On my touring bike, dealer recommends 2 over manufacturer's recommendations. 40R/38F versus 38/36.

I have found on my Harleys, they react badly to low pressures, and I can feel the difference if the get low by as little as 1 to 2 psi, but if I run them up to 3 psi over (on dry roads) I can't detect any discernible difference. For this reason I tend to run about 0.5 psi high.
