Default Tire Changer on Sale

Im thinking on changing my own tires to save some $. My fear is scarring my rim and not getting it properly balanced. For the price this looks like a good deal with a few modifications to keep from scratching the rim. Has anyone used this changer? And where can i get the plastic covers that will keep the irons from scratching my rim? Do the beads work sufficiently? Thanks for any imput.

I've got one and it will not work on my bike rims. I use the bead breaker to break the seal, and then use two 4 X 4 blocks with tire spoons (bought from HF) to remove and install the tire. For balancing, I just use dyna beads. Never had a problem with them and have been using them since 2008. Its not that expensive, you can give it a shot, but just saying it don't work on my Ultra rims. Good Luck.

Harley tires can be tough to mount and demount without the right tools. The rims don't have deep centers and the tires are usually bias ply. The pic of the tool in the OP doesn't look up to the task.

I used to have one of those things and I scrapped it a looong time ago. They don't really help and I feel they are actually in the way. The cheapest way to do it is like was mentioned above, 4x4 and spoons. I think HF sells the spoons for like 10 bux. Use plenty of tire lube. Why bother though... the tires are too expensive to mess up and once you spend the money to do it yourself, you could've paid someone else to just use their machine and do it.
