Anxle Nut Torque Adapter HD-47925
I am changing the rear tire on my '06 EGC this Saturday. I do not have the Torque Adapter mentioned in the Service Manual. Do I need one? I have asked the question before but nobody reponded. Is that because you can do the job without one (by moving the exhaust?).
Do I need the adapter to torque the wheel back on? Does everyone here who changes their own tires have one or are thereother ways to torque the axle back on?
In one thread it was mentioned to torque the wheel, spin it, loosen the nut then torque the nut again to properly seat and load the bearing. That was for an '08. Does that procedure apply to my '06 EGC because the manual doesn't say to do it that way. Different bearings?

Yep, just remove the exhaust, or you can drop the lower shock bolts and let the wheel drop low enough to get at the bolt(on a lift of course).I remove the exhaust and it works fine. Use copper grease on the exhaust joint and axel when it all goes back together and it will come apart easier next time.

Sounds like my old Shadow. Manual said to drop the exhaust but it was easier to remove the two shock bolt and drop the whole swing arm.
What about torquing the shaft / bearing? Do you torque it, spin the wheel, loosen then torque again like a couple folks said for the '08? They said they had a "split bearing".

Jims Tools "Rear Axle Nut Torque Adapter Tool"
I just ordered today from J&P Cycles the Jims Tools "Rear Nut Torque Adpater" Part No. 906. I hope it works as advertised since I'm tired of taking off my right side slip-on muffler to tighten rear axle nut if belt needs to be checked or tightened. Plus replace torqa clamp every other time I loosen it. Price was $37.95 + Shipping and Handling.
