Default Best rear tire mileage

After 15,000 miles on my '05 FLSTCI I have went thru 4 rear tires. The original Dunlop lasted 3,000 miles. Tried a couple Metzler's Marathon 880, you know, "touring type " for "mileage". Best was 5,500 miles. I'm now tryin' the new Dunlop 401D. It is supposed to have a harder compound in the center of the tire. We'll see.
I usually ride 1 up. I don't do burnouts. Im under 230 lbs. What's the deal? Or is this normal?

The stock Dunlop lasted me 2500 miles and I get about 6000 miles from the Metzler's so that sound normal to me.

I've got 8500 miles on mine and they still have plenty of tread left.

NO it is not normal I have got at least 8,000 miles out of every rear tire on every bike I have owned. As of now I have 9400 miles on my OEM on my 2007 EGC and still have at least 1000 miles left on it. I would check and see if your rear tire is alligned.

I had 13000 on the stock Dunlop and the Metzler 880 has over 7000 on it and it looks great. How often do you check your air pressure? If you brake with only the rear brake the tire will wear a lot faster.

I just recently changed my Dunlop rear with 9,000 miles on it and I have a few more to go with the front. Something does not sound right that is way too soon for the tire to go bad.

Never got less than 10,000 on any of my Dunlops. I have a friend pushing 16,000 but he never uses the rear brake.
