Default Wheel Help Please

Howdy,
A friend of mine ruined the rear wheel on a 2001 Ultra Classic. We have found tons of late model rear wheels but have heard that only 2000 and 2001 will work. I think the 2002 thru 2008 are the same as 2000 and 2001 just with different bearings but would like for someone that knows to confirm it.
Thanks Tom

Wink Rear wheel

The rear wheels are the same, The only difference is the bearings. Pull the bearings from the old wheel and install them with the spacer in the new wheel.

You model has a 3/4" axle and later models have 1" and 25mm axles. You can replace the late model bearings with early model bearings. You will need a new tubular spacer between the bearings. It must have the same inner diameter as the early spacer and a larger outer diameter so as to fill the hole through the wheel so the spacer will line up to push the axle through. Collars pressed on the ends of the original spacer could be used to make the older spacer center in the through hole of the wheel.

Getting the old bearings out will be difficult. I suggest you buy the tool for this from George's Garage.

I made my own tool to remove and install the 3/4" bearing but I do have machine tools.
