I am going to be replacing the rear pads soon. My question is do the rotors need to be turned when you install new pads? I know you should turn the rotors when you replace the pads on your automobile.
I've never heard of anyone turning their rotors. Don't even know if it can be done. However, when I change my pads I do de-glaze the rotors with a course scotchbrite pad on a roloc disc. It doesn't really remove muchmetal, but puts a nice, random, hatch pattern back on the steel.

On the stock rotors it says what the minimum thickness should be. Check them if you have micrometer Gage. If not have someone check them. I would replace them with new if they are below tolerance.
I machined my rear once . I had reinstalled my rear tire and had the spacers wrong . caliper bracket rubbed rotor . The rotor was almost like stainless and when I machined it made curly long shavings . worked though and rotor is still on the bike . To answer your question , it is not necessary , just deglaze
