I have a 1992 fxstc it has the aluminum fat boy wheels i think 3.5 inches wide with a rear tire @ 130/90/16. i wanna go wider with out changing the rear sprocket and belt. what are my options 150/80/16 tire? on the stock rim or wider wheel what years will fit.

Look at the space between your drive belt and your tire. I doubt there is much space for a larger tire without changing your rear sprocket and belt to a narrower modern belt. I'm doing the research now for my bike and am thinking a chain drive conversion is in my near future. It's not the rim that is the problem, it is the wide drive belt. I'm a dyna guy but I think early softtails are very similar in this respect.

150 is the biggest you can go without changing the rear pulley/belt.

Default similar ?

I have a 2005 deuce and I would also like to go with a bigger rear tire. Anyone know how big i can go. I have a 160/17 stock. I was hoping to put a new softail rim on.

You might be able to squeeze a 180 back there with no mods on your '05.

I have a 150/80/16 in my 1990 Evo. To get it in I used a later spec narrow belt and rear pulley. I have read that a 150 will fit, if you use a narrow spacer behind the pulley. Go over to the Evo forum and take a look over there, there is a recent thread on this.

A 150 is the widest we should use on a stock 3" rim. Another thing to consider is that on my bike the tyre is dead centre, but a very close fit in the fender! A wider tyre will not go in.

HD offered a 150 kit for your bike. It consisted of a narrower rear pulley and belt, and the 150 series tire. It is not boatloads wider than the stock 130 but a noticeable difference. Ask a good HD parts guy, he should be able to hook you up. If the kit is no longer available he should be able to tell you what parts are necessary to make the change.
