I know this may be whipping a dead horse but, who knows what the widest tire is that I can stuff under the rear of a 2000 Road King... Without any changes or at least minimum ones at most.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Be assured that poor horse gets beat to death pretty well every week!

The widest you can fit to a stock wheel is 150/80, however that may not go in without changing to a later spec narrow belt (I have done that). Otherwise, some 140s will go in, such as the later spec stock MU, which is 140/85. Your stock MT-130/90, the MU-140/85 and 150/80 all have almost identical rolling diameters.

An MU-140/85 is the best bet, but may rub your belt guard, which can be cured by trimming the inner guard to give clearance. Be aware that the fitted widths of tyres often are different to the claimed width, also brands of the same size can be different as well.

140 is the max. Personally, I'd do a 130 as you can't really see how wide it is regardless. I run a 130 on my 02 fatboy and it rides great.

The benefit of an MU is the increased load rating, especially useful if you ride 2-up a lot or are very heavy. I consulted Avon on this a few years ago and they recommended using one. In their opinion the MT is marginal for heavy duty use, which we can see as Harley has gone from the MT at load rating of 74, to an MU at 77 and the latest bikes are 81.
