A Gallery of St. Patrick's Day Bikes and Riders (photos)

Some riders think that green is bad luck, but don't tell that to any Kawasaki fans, or the the owners of these bikes that are perfect for Saint Patrick's Day in one way or another.

1. Born Lucky

The luck of the Irish is supposedly great, despite all the unrest, potato famines, and discrimination they have suffered, and being born on St. Patrick's day ought to make Pat Gerk extra lucky. When Pat died he left his backetcase Shovelhead to his nephew Tommy, and maybe some of that luck too. This classic bagger custom in green was built up from the bones of that basket case with a paint job that would be right at home on the Emerald Isle. You can see more pictures and get the details at Baggers Magazine.

2. Short and Sweet Bagger Parade

Hot Springs, Arkansas claims to have the shortest parade in the world, on the shortest city street, 98 foot long Bridge Street. Their St. Patrick's Day parade is over in no time at all for participants, which just means you can get to celebrating sooner. The lead bagger is in a very St. Pats friendly green and cream color scheme, but at least the riders on the other bikes have dressed for the occasion.

3. Harley Patrick

For no reason I can find, in the Saint Patrick's Day parade in Dublin there is a recurring float dubbed Harley Patrick, which is a giant riding a Harley. With his thick red hair and beard he looks more like a Viking than an Irishman, but maybe he immigrated?

4. Wee Little Biker

This little leprechaun on a mini-bike seems to be having a grand time at the parade, though the Harley riders don't seem too amused. Maybe these bagger-riding bikers are just jealous cause they can't ride a wheelie like him?

5. Not DOT Approved

This rider seems to be having way too much fun riding in the parade. While the hat fits the mood, I'm pretty sure foam Baileys Irish Cream promotional hats aren't DOT approved for motorcycle riding in California. This guy looks as if he may have already started partying before the parade.

6. Irish Heritage Springer Softail

The Irish flag is green, white and orange, which makes this Heritage Springer Softail almost, but not quite right, with its red and white, plus added green decorations. Still, these bikes are such modern classic they go well with anything.

7. Blue and Green

Of course, it would be hard to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with a parade without the help of our boys in blue. Here the Fairfax County Virginia Motor Squad not only keep the peace, but ride their carefully practiced parade formations. These same officers provide supplemental escorts to the State Department and Secret Service around Washington D.C., too, so it's not just parades and trick riding.
