Guys, I need your help..... I am still in Korea, doing my 1 year stretch before coming home, and have decided to start a long term bobber/bar hopper project when I get back. Will use a Paughco Wishbone frame, no stretch, 30 degree rake and run a springer w/ drag bar, 21" spool front wheel, tooled leather seat, etc. Anyway, I need help with this: PANDEMONIUM engine! Really like this idea, as I get the RELIABILITY I demand, and the looks, but I'm scared to death to buy one of these motors without finding out from somebody...anybody.... who has been around them, and knows of them, i.e., how they run, etc. I would run it with the rev-tech kicker tranny, or just a electric start tranny, and a 3 inch belt primary drive. Wanted to go with a real pan, but i need reliability, and 8psi. from the stock oil pump just isn't going to cut it for me. :( I want all the modern convienences, with the old look.... Do any of you have any experience with this motor? Thanks! Joe

traveler, thx for serving our country...As far as the Pandemonium motor goes, I have not seen one out here in Kalif. Just a thought on another alternative..Accurate Engineering also builds modern (is there really such a thing?) pan motors. Sucker Punch Salleys in Cinnci, Ohio offers them as well as evo and shovelhead motors. They advertise in The Horse magazine.

Hey joe....one soldier to another!!! I was on the DMZ 70-71 I know 2 peaple who had the pandamonium motors and they liked them,no reliability issues. But like what was previously mentioned....accurate engineering does a bang up job of building these motors....you can get them 80" 93" 103" 106" or even 120".You can also buy one from STD in california....they have an Excellent reputation for all their products.

A few years ago I built a replica Pan (bobber) from V-twin parts. as far as the engine goes, I used S&S for the lower and V-twin upper (V-twin has some of the best replica heads I have ever seen) You would be hard pressed to tell this bike from the real deal, unless you got down on your knees. and talk about a runner, this bike never stops.

Traveler. First off, THANX for your time and service. I have only ever heard of one failure with the Pandemonium, and the outcome was not real good as far as getting them to back the engine. It was a catatrophic failure of the lower end. The rest I have heard no problems about, and there are a few around. Accurate makes a bang up motor, and S&S has come out with their P series. http://www.sscycle.com/iframes/newstuff.php Not sure how stuck you are on pans, but if a knuck is an option, S&S also bought out Flathead Power from Sweden, and are also going to be producing the Knucklehead, available Feb of 08. Flathead was making up to a 121" knuck, and I have seen that in action with a 6 spd behind it. AWESOME is what comes to mind. But the P series has the same S&S lower end, etc, and I believe is going to be a good motor. I put a set of STD panheads on mine when I rebuilt it 3 yrs ago. They breathe better out of the box than a massaged set of Harley heads ever will. But their valves, guides, etc are proprietary. And the S&S HVHP oil pump works wonders. Will hold oil press in Sturgis traffic. Getting to be lots of choices out there, not like it was a few years ago. Guess the rest are figuring out what we have known all along, knucks, pans and shovels are GREAT, and S&S and others would like in on the fun, and the $$$$$. Good luck with the bobber.

If you're going to ride a pan, ride a pan. If you're going to ride an evo, ride an evo. Can't have the look without the commitment.Only my opinion.

traveler I aggree with ironheads, you can get everything you want and not mess with the Korean stuff, your now allowed to buy a real Pan. You can find what you want on Ebay and just rebuild it. Youl have the real McCoy and it will run forever as long as you take care of it. The best part is you can find all the parts you need to do it.

S&S - Acurate - STD - Pandemonium etc. or an original, They are all motors that will last a lifetime if taken care of. All are reliable when you take care of them. If you want to do some hard riding - long days - highway speeds then the original Panhead may not be for you. Newer motors deal with heat and wear better and can deal with the mistreatment. Your bober/chopper sounds great . Build it your way and ride it. I know your used to taking orders, but no one around here knows whats best for you. Thanks for your commitment to our country, give "your" bike the same commitment. kickstart 57 Pan

kickstart pan, you see that pic of my bike in my avitar? I rode that thing to work every good morning when it started to get past 45 degrees out here and took it on long trips at 65mph. I make my own oil temp gauges for pans (you can buy one on ebay) and the highest temp I EVER saw was 240, and it was 98 degrees that day, I changed the oil and put 60wt in it instead of my usual 50wt. Normally it ran about 200-210 degrees when it is 80 degrees outside. You can run the freeway speeds all you want with an original engine, they did it all the time as I did. It just has to be built right. And mine was.
