At the 1000 mile service I'm thinking of installing a stage 1 kit with slip-on mufflers on my FXDLI. Are all stage 1 kits equal and do you have to match them with the slip-ons? Sould one use a dyno in reprograming the EFI?

I put my stage 1 on at the 1000 mile service. I went with the Screamin' Eagle air cleaner kit and slip ons, so it was a standard dowload for the efi, no dyno required.

"standard download?" Does this mean that I may reprogram the EFI on my own or must I go to a dealer?

Tripper,

You don't have to do anything but give the dealer money. The MAP is like a set of directions for the bike. Measures stuff, and looks up on the MAP how much air and fuel to let in...makes it run better, and run in tune with the configuration of the bike (assuming you have the right MAP). The dealer takes care of it...they have the software, plug into the harness of your bike, run the program and thats it.

The MAP is based on certain set ups for the bike, (intakes, exhaust, etc.) Works well for most. For the BEST tune for any bike, you'd need to put it on a Dyno, but like I said, the MAP is probaby satisfactory for your average joe.

A stage one for your bike is all too routine to dealers in that they would most likely already have a map program that they have used in the past and know to work well. Downloads like that can be done yourself if you have the program and know how, but would most likely be better left to your dealer. I would also recommend installing a free flowing air filter, like K&N for the best possible results (have it mapped at the same time of course).

Thanx for all the advice, guys. I most likely will not go to my dealer as they are 75 miles away but there is a Harley parts store/service garage here in town. Probably might be a [sm=goodidea.gif] to be on their good side.
