Does anybody like any Auto Racing other than NASCAR ?

The NASCAR thread got me wondering....

I'm curious if there are any fans of auto racing here other than NASCAR ?

Open Wheel racing ? Drag racing ? Bike racing (MotoGP, AMA, dirt bikes ) ? Hell, even boats and airplanes. I've been to a bunch of auto races- even some GP bike races at Laguna Seca. Racing's my favorite sport. I'm wondering what everyone likes around here......

Open wheel and dirt racing bikes are cool, but not shown on broadcast TV, so I gotta go when they are running near me.

Used to like the IndyCar stuff, but in the twisty tracks not the ovals. And since CART screwed that up it will be a while before it comes back.

Sprint car and F1... Diffrent ends of the spectrum there. Like most auto and bike races , Planes too, won't watch CART IRL till they get back together.

So will you watch Champ Car (CART) after the irl finally dies ?

I've been to several World of Outlaw races, over twenty F1 races, and the Reno Air races. I wish the Air Races and WoO were on TV.

If it runs on dead dinosaurs and there are checkered flags, I'll watch it. Even the School Bus Figure 8's that come to the local track twice a year.

Here is what our family participated in for nearly 60 years. Inboard Limited Hydroplane racing. 150 CID (2.5L modified) class. Methonal and unlimited mods using OEM block & heads.

I don't see either making it by themselves. The IRL has Indy, and the guy will not give it to the re-reborn CART (Champ).

And after what those CART losers pulled in Dallas a few years ago I will never watch anything they sponsor. IRL will have to merge (takeover) them first.

I used to have a neighbor that raced a dirt late model economy camaro and was introed to the dirt track scene. Still like that and used to watch alot of IMSA GT racing.

Are you talking about the fiasco at Texas Motor Speedway ?

I think Bobby Rahal was running CART at the time. He is now in the irl, after trying a last minute back-stab attempt to kill CART, along with Fernandez. The other "CART losers" you are referring to, such as Penske, Andretti, Ganassi, Fernandez, etc. are also in the irl. Fernandez and Rahal left CART for the IRL because "that's where their sponsors wanted them to be." They both lost those sponsors. Fernandez is out of the IRL and Bobby's son won't run in the IRL, but is probably gonna run in Champ Car this year.

But if I'd have had tickets to that race, I'd have been pissed too. But all the whiners who couldn't run at TMS in CART had no problem running it in irl cars. What does that say ?
