Default Boot Camp

If I had rejoined the Army, either active duty or reserve, I would have had to go back to boot camp. Rusty, can you tell me what Navy boot camp was like before you were stationed on the Ark?

The Physical requiremnets then were the same as Marine Corp requirements, we were not subjected to the Craziness of the Sleep Depravation like the Corps, and the CC's were not as hard ass as the DI's, but we were put thru the mill so to speak. I went in at 185 lbs, 13 weeks later I came out at 155! Lots of class time, Damage Control (firefighting etc), lots of Ship Board routine classes, lots of swimming! It was 12 weeks long too.

My daugher just graduated Navy RTC on Nov 2nd. It was nothing like it was in 1976. She said is was completely insane with the last part called Battle Stations. You're up for close to 36 hours in simulators fighting fires, flooding, finding dead dismembered bodies, and injuries. They have a new multi million dollar complex that was designed by Universal Studios (might be wrong on that one) and it was exremely life-like. She said it was so realistic that it could give ya PTSD.

I was an AF recruiter up until about 6 months ago, if you were prior service, you didn't have to go back through Basic. We had a 2 week indoc course for sister services. Basically get your uniforms, learn how to wear them, learn the rank structure, and some history.

I thought it was the same for all???

The Marines require you to graduate bootcamp if I am not mistaken. That to them is the making of Marines.

Zombie, I have gone through 3 bootcamps...yep 3!! It does get harder to do as you get older and less patient with B.S.. I joined the Airforce and after four years I decided to go Coast Guard, had to give up two stripes and go through bootcamp to do it. It was worth it, I really enjoyed what I did. Right up intil I got involuntarilly R.I.F'd (reduction in force) due to budget cuts after two years of service!!! I spent a few years as a civilian and decided to go into the Army so I could get the retirement I wanted and had to go to boot camp again. For me that was a huge mistake. I hated it. I have good friends that retired Army and they loved their jobs, but it wasn't for me. Served a total of 2 1/2 years in the Army and found a loop hole to jump ship. I haven't looked back!!! It would have been nice to have that military pension, but for me the Army wasn't worth it. For those of you that proudly serve and have served in the Army don't take offense. It just wasn't for me.

******, that is true, if you are prior service but not a Marine, the you have to go through Marine Corps Recruit Training, i.e. Boot Camp. It don't matter wether you came from army, navy, air force, or the coast guard, your a$$ is going to Parris Island baby. Semper Fi, wanna

Army boot camp has change alot, got more emphasis on modern combat tactics, and is not as hard as it used to be.
