Hey, we all make mistakes. Truth is, the Sporty is the smallest bike and I have this thing about starting small and advancing, plus the fact that at 16 I dropped a buddies bike while making a u-turn, first time riding. So I figured I could handle a Sporty after the course. I had intened to take the course sooner never realizing that I may not be able to get in a class right away. I had a friend at work telling me I'd want a bigger bike but didn't think so at the time. One other point, I may have still had the Sporty had my wife not seen the FXDI35 that day. She saw a Fatboy on a recent trip to the dealer and wished we cold get that. It doesn't end. No, we didn't get it.

I'm 56 and a new rider. Started out with an '06 1200C that I bought in April but didn't started riding until after my MSF course in May. We had a bad storm here in Jul and since the wife and I had no power, we decided to go to our Harley dealer to seee the new 2007s. They were on generator power but it didn't stop them from selling us our FXDI35. Wife saw it and had to have it, so we traded in the Sporty with only 667 miles on it. It was a wise decision though because it is more comfortable and better for us riding two up. Got about 3200 miles on it and will be riding during the winter when things dry out around here.

Only 667 miles ? That sporty was barely broken in...

Maybe it's just me,but I don't get why people buy a bike before taking the MSF course... The MSF folks provide bikes for y'all to learn on and then you can go down to the dealer and make a well informed decision about what to buy.

I'm 58, have had my WG for a couple of years. I was in Palm Springs with a friend recently and we rented a couple of Fat Boys to ride up in the mountain. I've been thinking of selling the WG and getting a Softtail recently, the FB rode great, BUT I love my WG. I've ridden Sporty's and ST, but they don't come close to the felling of the Dyna.

So, I'm keeping the WG. Whenever there's a group of us riding and we come up to a stop with people standing around, they always point out my bike as the one they'd like to have.

All this 'geezer' thing is most amusing to this 'ere 'Limey', as a Geezer is just London slang for a 'man', 'bloke' etc........it's not age related at all.......a top geezer can be 18 or 80.....

All finally makes sense now, you've got a wife who like's 'em big...

My largest bike before this Nightrain was only 750cc and nowhere near as heavy. The Train is my first HD and also my first ride with forward controls.I'd be lying if I didn't admit to feeling a little intimidated.

I guess it works both ways because:

Not long after break-in,over confidence lead me to taking some turns too fast a couple of times and was lucky to get around 'em in one piece. If I'd crashed, the mental pain of feeling really stupid probably would have outweighed any physical pain.

My wife's the opposite of yours, although she didn't care about the cost, the bigger the bike, the more squeamish she got about me buying it.

Ironically,it was a story written by someone in one of the forums that really hit me.It was about how he was going to buy a particular bike until his wife spotted a Nightrain over in the corner and said "That bike's you,if that's what you really want, lets bring it home".It was a bit of a stretch for them financially but she wanted him to have it.

Something about the way he wrote that story touched me,what a beautifully unselfish thing for his wife to say.

Ride safe Hep0950,and don't forget to post pics of that '08 Fatboy when you get it.

Well, know my birth certificate must be fake, 'cause my Mom has always insisted I came from Sears, and threatened to take me back a bunch of times. Fact is, I think they must have got me 'onsale', and couldn't return me (in 1953 folks could buy just about anything through the Sears Catalog).

T3, I consider myself very lucky to have a wife like I have. she's the reason I got a Harley to begin with. I was originally going to get a 650 Suzuki skooter and she told me if I was going to get a skooter that big I might as well get a motorcycle and it might as well be a Harley. I love that woman, and it only took me thrr tries to get the right one.LOL

Keep the rubber side down and I will post the next bike when I get it. It will be bigger, that I know. We will probably be ready for the true geezer bikes by then.

I'm 62 and love my Geezer ride. Only bad thing I work so many hours I have no time to ride.

I had a 68 sporty in the 70's a chopper of sorts. Wish I kept that one.

SShhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! There are RK riders on this forum................ Somebody is gonna get you forsayin' that....LOL

Besides, when somebody passes you like y0u are sttin' still, and they are on an RK, you'll know that guy added a few extra ponies to his geezer glide.
If I could afford 2 ea Harleys, 1 of them would be an RK or SG, but I can't see ever being without a Dyna..... too sweet!!!

I had a 63 pan back some many, many years ago.
Got back into riding 5 years ago and pick up a sporty and only kept for a year.
Moved to a FXD and enjoyed the entry cost versatility and power.
Late last year picked up a FLT (used) and now decide which to ride depending on the ride.
Quick rides and rides without needing a lot of packing I jump on the FXD.  The FXD is a great bike.

I bought my Dyna because I *AM NOT* a geezer.

According to my research geezers like RV's. So it is only logical that the more like an RV the bike is, the more likely it is to be ridden by a geezer. If you happen to have one of these bikes and are offended by what I have said please accept my apologies. I did not mean to interrupt your installation of the 9 foot ball mount CB whip antenna.

=)

I wasn't an old geezer when this post originated a year and a half ago.  I'm a lot closer to an old geezer now that it has resurfaced.

I'm 56 and bought my first bike in 1970 at the age of 18.  This definetely is a life long love affair.  The secret to staying young is to do young things!

I might be hitting 50 in August, but all of us must still be "young at heart" to choose a mans Harley...The Dyna's.  You don't officially become an Old fart in my book until you buy those dam baggers.  I'd rather go back to riding a Sportster than be seen on a bagger...lol.

The '07 SuperGlide Custom is Harley Davidson's best kept secret.

Agreed.
I'm a soon-to-be 53 year old geezer, have the geezer glide, and LOVE IT.
But I also have a FXDC.
I bought it so that my son can ride with me.  He's turning out to be a great riding buddy too.  But the Super Glide is in my name, I pay the insurance, so it's MINE.
When he's in school I'll sometimes jump on the Dyna to go for a romp or a quick ride to the store.

It always amazes me just how much quicker it is, and how nimble the handling.
My Street Glide has Stage 1: D&D Fat Cats, Ness Big Sucker, Thundermax AT, etc., and for sure runs better than it did bone stock.  But I have to admit the Super Glide kicks butt over the Street Glide in terms of jump off the line, accelleration, and handling twisties.  When I get back on the Street Glide I notice the added weight.
