No "poll" button so I guess this will have to be done the old way.

I'm just wondering what is considered a "classic" Evo, in your mind.
"POLL" question:
What year Evo is considered a "classic"?
1984-1989
1990-1994
1995-1999

I would have to say 1984-1989. The rest are just too new.

Au Contrair....More and More parts for all these bikes are being 'obsoleted' by The MoCo. And finding a good wrench that can work on an EVO is getting as difficult as finding someone that knows what a Shovelhead is. Which is the comparison I like to make, most EVO owners do all their own wrenching...Just like the Shovel owners do.

When HD ends up going watercooled on all there motors, everything air cooled will become a Classic Harley.

I spoke to my local dealer last week and was told that Harley Davidson will not be stocking any parts for bikes after 5 years of the warranty period running out for a particular model. That is supposed to start next year here in Australia. So I guess it will be coming to a U.S. Harley dealer near you

Last bikw was an 84 FXR, current bike is an 89 FLHT

So 84 to 89 are the "classics!" ;)

Hell, there are enough companies out there making parts for evo's that we should be good to go for a very long time.

There are so many aftermarket parts and indy wrenchers that its doubtful that parts will ever be obsolete.JP cycles has always carried anything I need for my '92

Personally, I do consider my '95 a classic.  Though, I imagine the rest of the world doesn't.

I would say any EVO, at least according to my local dealer. I have a 99 FLSTC and I love it, I have 87K on it and it's running strong. I am thinking about an ElectraGlide Standard, but I want a 1998 or older because I like the EVO motor. I am keeping my Heritage though and was just browsing. The dealer said they don't take those "old" models in on trade in because "they are to hard to work on", I couldn't believe he would make a comment like that. I suppose that is why they never touch my bike. I either do it myself or take it to an  independent shop if I can't do it.

I am partial to the Shovelhead and the EVO. Both are pretty reliable engines and the best Harley ever had in my mind. For Dealers though, they consider both obsolete and do not like to work on them.

More and more HD dealers are employeeing younger mechanics. Older ones are retiring or have their own shop...ones that knew the Shovel and EVO. Younger tech's just don't know very much about the EVO since they do not train on the EVO anymore. Nothing but Twin Cam and the V-Rod stuff anymore. The shovel is antique and the EVO is classic.

The best years of the EVO...all of them.

All things considered, I guess my '91 FXRS Convertible must certainly be a "classic" since the FXR frame was phased out in, what, 1993?  And especially since the Convertible was one of only 3 FXR models to come with air-charged front end and dual front discs. I found a brand new (sealed in the box) pair of Convertible bags a few years ago at the dealer, snapped them up, and stashed 'em for the day when my originals are too thrashed to keep on keepin' on.

I bought a new '07 FLHTC last week but didn't even consider getting rid of the Lowrider.

They are all classics,An Evo is just a ShovelHead with an aluminum top-end.And a few upgrades.I have to admit my first Evo made a little anxious because it was new.It has certainly proven itself worthy.

What year Evo is considered a "classic"?
1984-1989 4
1990-1994 4
1995-1999 2

All Evolutions 4

I see we have a poll button now.

Guess mine is a classic. I'm not concerned what HD does with parts, I don't buy from them anymore.
My biggest concern is getting parts for the Springer front end. I already had to use a machine shop to make some parts for me.

I have to think of the 1995 FLHT Standard as a classic, it was the first year that Harley introduced fuel injection.
And 1995 was the first year for the 1995 FLHT Standard if I recall right.

I ride a 99 and consider it to be the last of the greats.  HD is droping more and more of the goodies from their catalog every year.

Gotta go with the 84-89 bracket,.......my '87 fits right in there. I try to do any work I can, but since I'm not that good at wrenching, I've already found a couple of old timers who work out of their homes, and know all about evo's,......and at a much better price than the dealer

Love all the EVO's....especially my 91 Sturgis, a classic in my eyes!  The bike I am building now from the ground up is....you guessed it, EVO powered rigid framed barhopper.  Some year EVO's are better than others, they had some bad years with the cases, I had to replace mine a while ago.

Todays EVO's are tomorrows classic panheads!

Keep those EVO's alive!

By the sounds of it, my 98 Wide Glide may soon be considered a classic as the WG is apparently going to be discontinued.

I'm the proud owner of a 1988 model but I'm already used to having an obsolete ride. I heard the same song and dance when I used to own my '80 FLT Shovel or the '73 & '79 XLH's.

In the auto world, i think its a 20 year thing. But as far as the MoCo goes...i believe that they concider anything that isn't TC a classic. Im finishing up a rebuild on my '84 and the local parts guy at the HD dealer has gotten old stock parts from as far away as Richmond IN. Considering im in central FL, thats a haul. Aftermarket is going to be the only place you can get things for anything older than a TC pretty soon.
