I was in the USMC from 1976-1979.  Total peace-time Marine - I did nothing but run too much, drill too much and drink too much.

My family, however, has a lot of service:
- Grandfather fought in WWI
- Father tried to enlist in Army Air Corps and was denied entry for medical reasons
- Two uncles that fought in WWII - one on a PT boat in the South Pacific, the other was captured in North Africa and spent 3 1/2 years as a Nazi POW
- My mother's youngest brother retired from the USAF as a Lt. Colonel, spent most of his career in the space program
- Step-father was a medic in Korea and his brother was a combat Marine in Korea.
- Younger brother also in USMC from 1981-1985

Dad was in the Navy in WWII. Earned the Navy Cross at Okinawa after his ship was sunk by a kamikazee.

I served in the US Army from July 1969-March 1972. I was in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from August 1970 to December 1971, then with MACV until March 1972 after the 101 rotated back to the states.
