Default new project - others with experiance??

AH - what am I - I got ahold of a JEEP - old as hell - other than it having no interior floor steel left - the frfomt end is good and if I am not mistaken, it is a rare one

only identifying things on it are on the firewall - a tag that says "Kaiser Jeep Corperation - 8305 176099" on the passenger side of the engine block are numbers 807 895

not having any luck searching the net and have not been able to get onto a Jeep forum

going to be a long project - but should have some fun when I'm done stomping through the woods in the mud

Mol - no help here but I will tell you when you finish you will really have a great time with that machine - I had a '55 M38A1 Willy's it was a smokin' good time and lot of fun to pound around in. Enjoy.

thanks man - I know - this will actually be my third rebuild/ resurrection from the dead. First Jeep job was a buddies - that was in worse shape and we built the floor and sides by the old school body panel method - mannilla pattern - knock it out a 16 gauge

second was my neighbors - a 59 williys - that one was mainly an engine overhaul - once we got it apart, the sumbich had been running on 3 cylinders - ended up having a cracked block - brought it to a specialist who repaired it and pinned the crack - it is still running

this one is for me - I just haven't been able to identify the year yet - I think it is a 61 or a 63

Call a Chrysler dealership with those VIN numbers and they will tell you what you have. If the dealership can't help email me and I will get you the info. I have restored two Jeeps. One was Willys and the other one was the Ford version. Both are military. I owned a 1960 Willys Jeep a few years ago. You can now buy steel body tubs for about 3500 Canadian dollars for whatever year Jeep you want. They are perfect reproductions.

Try this site Mol

http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Seri...osSixties.html

Decodes the SN's

It looks like it's a CJ-5

8305 176099

83 is the chassis code -- CJ-5, 4 Wheel Drive
05 is the body style code -- Open Body
1 is the drive code -- Left Hand Drive
7 is the engine code -- V6-225 (Smog)
and the rest is the sequence number it looks like.

zombie - thanks for the link - I had been there and couldn't make heads or tales of it - course I been a little busy - the 7 meaning a 6 cylinder is going to be a problem - there is a 4 in it - and everything looks original - usually it is pretty obvious when these things have been basterized

still working on it[8D]

Thing is, a 4 was a common engine in those I think...but all the sites I saw indicated the 7 was a 255 V-6. Good luck!
