I'm considering a 65 Police Service Trike that has had some modifications like solid state ignition, larger primary sproket, powder coated rear wheels, painted stock white with a 1k since a full restoration.

I'd like to know if there is anything I should know before making a purchase of it.
Anything that I need to look at or inspect closely?

What's it worth if condition looks good & runs good?

Please respond quickly as I'm looking at it in the morning!

How bout some pics!!!  I rode a 63 Police Trike on duty in the late 70's early 80's.  Not exactly built for speed but a great ride...

Sorry for the delay I've just been to lazy to read all the instructions on how to post. Other boards I visit I can simply pull them off my computer as an attachment. I read something that said I had to use a host site to do here.

Your right about the speed part & I'm certain it's because their pretty dangerous to drive very fast. This one has had a larger primary gear installed. I've had it her up to just over 50 and it's spooky. Steering is extremely quick. Changes lanes in a microsecond.

We have a shop here called Truett & Osborne that are pretty famous for their 45 flywheels. If I do keep this bike I'd like to install one for the added torque.

70? you'd be lucky to get a stock 45" solo to do 70 downhill with a tailwind. I've ridden a lot of G models and 55 is really flying.

Toyman, kool lookin bike! I used T&O to do a stock rebuild on my OEM flywheels, rods for my 49EL. Had them trued and balanced as well. There work is absolutely superb. Gave me a complete spec sheet when they came back. There are better than factory new. If you have them do some work for you you will not regret it.

They are pretty good wrenches on the old stuff. I'm having them rebore a pair of jugs to new pistons for an old 80 FLH Shovel that belongs to a buddy of mine. My first time into the topend of one of these. I need to get some good specs. for a proper breakin for it. I want to do this right the first time. Bike had a cracked intake that caused the pistons to get hot.
T&O is very well known for their flywheels.

Good lookin trike Toyman , wish I still had mine at times ,45 or 50 mph was top speed , the front end shook at 50 mph I put a shock on it , it helped . Great riding on flat roads , slow on hills though, but the police just used them around town .

I've considered selling mine but am sure I'd regret it later so I don't plan to. Your right on with the speed and ability to climb hills. These are very low performance machines and with good reason. Steering is very sensitive at speed and should have a stabilizer which I plan to install. Mine doesn't shake at speed but in reverse it can wobble pretty good. Thanks for the compliments. your looked pretty cool wit the stakebed.

toyman, i also just bought a trike . no where as nice as yours. mine doesn't have the box but i got the brackets/bar for som kind of a something that can be mounted later. i like mine without the box. looks more like a rat rod trike. Yuck posted pics of mine in the HDF chat side of this forum for me. mine has a 1946 frame /front springer and a 1965 motor/tranny.  i hope by next spring mine can look almost as good as yours.  your right, they are a blast to ride. total HD history at it's finest. all style and can be one scarry ride. i don't know where you found yours, but mine was on craigslist and i couldn't believe how cheap  i was able to get it. for the first time in my life i got a good deal.  who are the guys TandO that you talk about for motor work and where are they located?  thanks for the inspiration.  shredhd

The right side shifter marks it as the metermaid version. A bit more rare than the delivery/traffic control one.

I have come to a point in my life that forces me to sell off my toys. This little Servi-Car is now on e-bay for auction to the highest bidder. Get this one if you've ever wanted something like this. She is a real gem.

Interesting bike. I notice it has a right hand shifter, not the norm for Servicars, which usually had left hand shifters. Is your throttle still on the right?

Sure would like you to share this with the classic American enthusiasts on www.caimag.com.

Enjoy it, I had a 1941 Servi for a few years - what a blast!

Unfortunately I have only got to enjoy it for approx. one year but it has been a wonderful experience that I will cherish the rest of my life. Things like this pass through our lives if we're lucky and we get to enjoy them for the moment. I wish I didn't have to sell it but I must and I'll be da^* lucky if I can hold onto my 06 Ultra.
This bike was a local Police Meter Bike so it originally was left hand throttle to allow the driver to mark vehicles tires on the right with a long chaulk stick. It has been converted to right hand throttle as per modern day bikes as a safety issue. I still have the original left hand throttle for those that would want it. This bike has been extremely interesting for all that has witnessed it. Many people get pretty excited when they see me ride it and go to some far reaching levels to show me their appreciation of it. She is a hoot to ride!

Toyman,

I am coming to this post late, but I saw your ebay listing a few weeks ago and realy thought it was exceptional.

Ironic that it was benig sold by a fellow HDF member...small world.

I was debating selling a liver or testicle to buy the bike, the better half frowned on the organ selling tho.

Someday I'd like to own one...

Toyman, I really came along late to this post. My very first Harley was a 1952 Servi (in '74) that belonged to the Honolulu PD. Bought it when stationed in Pearl. I was a nuc sub sailor, and had access to the base shops. Restored it to original blk and wht. LOVED it and it worked good over on the "Rock", yep, slow, but then not a lot of room to roam there. I sold it in '76 to a retired HPD LEO who had originally rode it when he worked for the HPD. Last summer, one of my buddies in our ABATE chapter, let me take his '49 for a day of fartin' around, damned, I forgot how much fun that thing was to ride. But you know, it was just as slow  as I remembered. And I feel for you with that having to sell stuff. 4 yrs ago, $$$ got bad here, sold my 01 Ultra with a 124" Zipper motor and Baker 6spd, then Me, Momma and the Pan went to Sturgis. Thanx for the memories and sharing the pics. Hope the man upstairs shines on you.   GUMBY

Right hand shift and advance control (except maybe the last couple of years) and left throttle are standard on the metermaide version. Most of these also had the locking speedometer for speed enforcement (as if you could catch them!). This setup also had a "holster" on the right front of the box for a chalk stick used to mark the tires of parked cars. The parking enforcement person would ride a long marking tires and then come back an hour or two later, depending on the parking time limit and ticket all the cars with marked tires.
