I am wanting to put a king queen style seat on my 75 xlh. The problem here is that it has a bolt on hardtail so thecontour of the backbone has been changed. I have looked at all of the major seat manufacturers, but really haven't seen any one piece seats that fit all of my requirements. I would like to make my own seat, or at least the seat pan. Anyone know of a web site oranything else taht would give me some idea of how to do this. Steel to use? Foam to form seat contour? Stuff like that.

Recently saw a post on another web site where a guy took a flat shovel and removed the handle. He then formed it into the shape he wanted to make a seat pan. Then he went from there to putting together the foam and leather to finish the job. Looked good. The steel was strong enough for it to support the ride.

Is the problem that the top tube is not inline with the top tubes of the bolt on hardtail. I've seen it before, I've never seen a catalog seat that works worth a cr**. Most guys used to go with a spring mount single. You would most likely have it custom made or make it yourself. Don't know where your from, but the winter is long here, what would it hurt to try your own hand,esp. if someone here could guide you.

winter is usually pretty long here too, but it doesn't seem to want to get started this year. Thanks zoood, I'll take all of the help I can get.

I noticed that your in PA. This company that makes the foam is too. Easton, PA I think. Eastern side of state. They can explain exactly what you need. Look them up and get the supplies you will need. If you have a picture of the looks of the seat you want. Let me know and I'll probably be able to figure out the amount of clay you'll need to shape for the seat. The pan that you'll make. I'll go over that with you. But you dont need a shovel or heavy gauge. Mine was originally aplastic one and was cracked and broken. I was able tofix it pretty easily with fiber glass resin, cloth and hardener. Heres the link for foam supplies - http://www.smooth-on.com/

You may want to look into a softail design seat like I have installed on one of the triumph choppers I built. Since the pan on this particular seat is plastic. Itcould possiblybe modified to accomodate your needs.
