A budy and I had the same problem...  he tried the easy off oven cleaner...  Now he has a spot on his pipes that is discolored...   I went with the 0000 steel wool and Mothers Chrome Polish.   The rain suit came off and the pipes look great.  I highly recommed the 0000 steel wool and polish route...  just my .02 worth

Pipes warm to the touch. then use Mother's Cleaner Wax and a little elbow grease.
Works like a charm.

Local dealership suggested Easy Off oven cleaner on warm pipes just use something to black the overy spray to the affected area. After rinseing I use mothers chrome polish and that keeps a nice shine. Also use never dull on my truck chrome at home and at work (on the firetrucks)

Just so I understand this correctly, you take a penny and scrape off the crap on the pipes?

Just read this post entirely for shoe stuffs on my pipes. Summary as follows:

Mothers Polish = dont have
WD40 = Didnt work
Goo Gone = Didnt work
Penny = Perfect Job!

Can''t dig in or it will scratch very lightly, but the lil sucker worked perfectly. Lightly moved the endge of the penny over the gunk back and forth. Got everything off and a fast wipe with a damp cloth for the scrapings of rubber. Didn''t even warm the pipes. Cold hard metal and a soft copper penny. At least I finally found a use for the old penny. I normally let the kids have em.

I''ve used the 0000 steel wool and WD40, took it right off. but you don''t want to put a lot of pressure on it. I''m going to try the copper penny next time.

And here I thought I was the only dummy that would melt their polyester pants to their pipes (it takes a real man to fess up to owning a pair of polyester pants). Anyway, wanted to pass on my efforts to remove them and what worked and did not work. Success came from the suggestions on this forum, thanks.

  1. brasso - nope
  2. paint thinner - nope
  3. acetone - nope
  4. ez off cleaner - nope
  5. polishing compound - nope
  6. rubbing compound - nope
  7. liquid sandpaper gel - nope
  8. copper penny - nope
  9. copper penny with brasso - nope
Success came with getting the pipes hot and rubbing with 0000 steel wool, came completely off with just a couple of minutes of rubbing and not with a lot of pressure. Go figure, now what do I do with those polyester argyle socks..........
