Oil pressure good, oil light comes on
I've got this wierd problem with '03 e-glide classic w/25,000mi. Running Amsoil. Every now and then, after the engine has warmed up while cruising, the oil light will flicker for a bit, then just "come on". It may or may not go out after awhile. Oil level and pressure is good. Of course it didnt happen when dealer checked it out. What does the oil light indicate? Any suggestions on how to further troubleshoot appreciated.

I'm guessin' here, could be a wire chafing, loose connection or, someone changed the oil sending unit and replaced it with an automobile one which senses a higher pressure.

You have one of 2 things going on. The first posability is a bad oil pressure sensor. Have the Harley Dealer put a mechanical gage on the motor and check the oil pressure.
The second posability, if the sensor is good, is the the phonelic followers on the cam chain tensioners are starting to come a part and the pieces are going through your oil pump trashing the gears. The cure is a new oil pump and gear driven cams. I am not a Harley Mechanic but my best friend is a Master Harley Tec with 35 years working for Harley. If you email me I will give you his phone number or you can email him at rockelracing@yahoo.com |

If it still does it I would replace the sensor. |

Are you sure the oil pressure is good and steady? If so, the best bet is that the wire to the sensor is pinched or has a bare spot. disconnect the sensor and see if the light still comes on to prove this. If the wire is good, then the sensor is the problem.

1) Check sensor wires for breaks inside insulation and bad connections. 2) Check oil pressure with a gauge |
RE: Oil pressure good, oil light comes on
I'm haveing the same problem on my 2000 FLHT. My questions are, if all is right, what pressure would the light come on, and if it were a wire chaffing or loose ground would my gauge also not work? In the service manual it mentions making sure you have oil returning to the pan but it's not real clear ( to me at least) how to do this. Thanks, Wally

Turned out to be a wire grounding out. About 6-8 inchs after the sensor , right near a wire clamp. Fixed and problem is gone. Hope its as easy for you

2002 RK and I had the same thing happen. Was the oil pressure sending unit.

The problem for us was a wire chafe inside the fairing. Thanks for all the replies!
