Default Skinny front tires...

Question for the guys riding Duece's, Wide glides etc... Does your bike get squirley at high speeds? How is it compared to a Heritage, Road King etc...

Thanks,

Ryan

Yes to all your questions. Rode to Sturgis in 01 on a stock Nighttrain,I got blown around by every semi, followed every rain groove and hated it . When I got back I traded it in on my 02 Deuce. I put PM Wheels on with the then new 21 by 3.5 with a Metzler 120-70/21 and I never have had a bit of a problem since.

I have a Wide Glide. We have the rain grooves on most of the hiways out here.
Never really bothered me. I had been riding for about 2 weeks and a split ring came of an shot across in front of me. Bin careful about that ever since.
I have read several times that the stability has a lot to do with the rake of the front end. The baggers and such are more stable at slower speeds due to the front end being in tight. While the Wide glides are better at high speeds, because they are streched out a bit.

Can't tell you for sure. never road anything but wide glides and Low Riders.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have a friend trying to decide which bike to buy, and I was told by a few people that the skinny front tires are a little loose at high speeds. I can cruise at 80 mph on my Heritage with one hand on the handle bars, and feel very comfortable. We're planning on some highway rides, so he needs to feel comfortable with his bike.

Thanks,

Ryan

I've got a Wide Glide and haven't had any problems so far. Tread's still new on the front, but as the compound seems quite hard on the original HD Dunlops, I'm a bit wary of how I brake into corners and on white lines, especially in the damp. However, it seems that so far I run out of ground clearance way before I run out of grip - even in the wet. Just make sure I'm not still hard on the brakes when I crank her over .

I am trying to be a bit more careful with the chrome on the SEII's; When I took the original pipes off at the 1,000 mile service, the lower one was badly scraped!

I have heard that the Dunlops get more skittish as they wear. A friend of mine has just put Avon Venoms on his WG and he reckons they're much better.

I have an 04 Sportster 883C and have run as fast as 90mph. In 750 miles I have yet to have any stability problems.

I am the friend and I have made a decision. I placed an order for a 05 Wide Glide today. I will update everyone on my experience after I get a chance to ride.
