Has anyone bought or tried the Cellular Line Interphone Bluetooth Intercom system? It has more than one favorable review out there, and seems to only be available through Canada and overseas for right now. I am interested in anyone's opinion on this setup before I turn in my 401k to purchase a couple of them!

a version of this unit will be available in the us shortly through http://www.benchmarkhelmets.com, preorders can be placed at http://www.amazon.com/Blueant-Interphone/dp/B000OPL74Y/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-2445665-3535809?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1175807930&sr=8-1

these units are great for 1 to 1 bike to bike intercom with a range up to 450 ft (no cellphone needed). we recently tested them out while in arizona for bike week and had no complaints. those looking for a less expensive rider passenger solution (range 30 ft) can use the cardo scala rider teamset which comes with 2 units for $229

any bike comm questions can be emailed to info@benchmarkhelmets.com

we also have the motorola units and they weren't our favorite as they came into the market pretty early on. if anybody is dead set on getting one, we have a few laying around the warehouse and can give you a good deal on them since it is discontinued.

$189 each

I am buying 2 units in the next 2 weeks, along with the ear piece holder from Super Seer so I can install on our half helmets.  I have been waiting for a good wireless system before I buy (have zero interest in wires inside my clothes), and as noted by others, very good reviews on this unit.  Now I can't wait for a Blue Tooth capable portable ipod...

If I purchase before anyone else, I will try and post my thoughts.

Rick

Rick, why don't you purchase them from Benchmark? They are the same price, or less, and he is an HDF sponsor. Only makes common sense to me. Hook a brother up, dude!

It looks like Bryan is taking the inexpensive over quality way out; not that there is anything wrong with that!

Let us know what you think of them, Bryan.

I just like to buy quality, and pay for it once. That is why I am considering all options, including researching these Motorola units.

What is the model number on these units, please, Benchmark?

I do believe that the BlueAnt Interphone is now available. I wonder if Benchmark will offer us a deal of some sort. I would rather do business with them than a non-sponsor. What say you, Benchmark? Thanks!!

here is the link to buy directly from us. we just got the units in this afternoon and are flying through them as a lot of people pre-ordered. we cannot sell below the retail price, however we do offer free priority shipping and make our best effort to ship the same day an order is placed if the order is placed early enough. We ship from California and have heard of people in New York getting their stuff 2 days later. As far as the motorola units, the model is hs-830, if you are shopping for it make sure it has the helmet adapter, some don't come with it. We are out of those as the 5 we had went quick on ebay. It is a couple years old and nothing compared to the interphone units.  if you guys have any questions, feel free to call us at 866.622.0221 or email info@benchmarkhelmets.com

What is your initial impression, Bryan? How is the volume? Did you try communicating bike to bike and, if so, what was the max distance you reached? I'm real interested! Thanks!

I've been studying these units for a few days now. BlueAnt advertises 10 hours talk time on them, but you say you only get six? That would be a deal breaker for me. We need at least 10 hours for trips.

I've read these work with a Zumo 550, too.

I emailed sniper to get his take on them. I am just a bit concerned at proper volume at cruising speed and the ability to hear the other party that you are linked to, whether they are on another bike or sitting behind you. Bryan, do you have any new observations on the Interphone?

From all reports the sound is pretty good. My concern is the talk-time being too short for a full days use. I would like to read someone's experience with that.

I've noticed if you shop ebay there are some selling for $145-$150 each.

yes...like i stated earlier....volume is no prob...clarity is excellent...wind noise is nil....talk time is 6hrs....what i did on the last run was pull out the small charger while at the lunch table and plugged it in, only takes about 15 mins and it went all day

wife & i find it funny how we can ride somewhere in the car or truck and barely speak(not mad at each other just married 14yrs) but we get on the bike with these interphones and jabber away  ...like acoupla high school kids

Appreciate you sharing your experience. If we don't stop for lunch, we stop for a break at a quick stop. 15-30 minutes charge time should be doable. I'm sold.

Thanks!

Ok I'm new here so I got mine elsewhere..sorry..I like the set up,can hear legably at 70-80 mph..yes the drawback is talk time...we're getting about 5 hrs..not long enough.we were thinking about what someone else said..recharging at lunch.I sure wish I could just buy a couple of the main "pods" so we could swap them out when they die and keep riding/talking,if anyone knows someone selling the pods seperate let me know.Scott

after further evaluation....all i said is true...the prob we've been having is its a pain in the ass to get them to "see" each other....instructions are unclear to me and there's only one control button....to get to the vox mode it takes a series of pushes ... we end up standin there for a few minutes sayin "can ya hear me now" over & over while pushin the button

I wrote, in black magic marker, on the back of each one the numbers 1 and 2. She always has 2. I have number one and it is linked to the cell phone.

Once you turn both of them on, all you have to do is hold YOUR big button in until you hear the second beep. That is when you are linked to her. If the cell phone rings, I hold the big button in until it beeps once, and then can talk on the cell. To go back to communicating with number 2, you just hold the button in until you hear the second beep.

Hope this helps.

I just got one to check it out for cell phone usage, (Ebay $112 shipped) before buying 2 sets. (For intercom purposes.) I have it set up in a half helmet  (with the ear shield/ protector whatever it's called.) The speaker volume is good however the thing that bothers me is I can't hear myself talking when I'm on the freeway going 55+. I can hear my caller just fine. But your mic is not amplified in your speaker, so it's rather annoying to have to yell to hear yourself talk. (The caller can hear fine, no wind noise) And I've noticed that when using the talk features, it's almost impossible to use unless you are at a dead stop or you shut off the bike. It hears the background noises and will quit trying. For instance : I say "call home"  it will reply  "Did you say; call home?"  "yes" but then it'll shut off because my bike's exhaust is too loud. Very annoying!!!
For the most part, it works great, if you need to keep your phone on when traveling, commuting, etc. It has an easy charging set up.
Now I guess need to get another one to check out the intercom feature.

For anyone that is surprised that the intercom feature only lasts 5 hours, its clearly stated on the "in action" video on their website and in the tech specs;

http://www.blueant.com.au/interphone-motorbike-helmet-kit-video.htm

Says you should expect 10 hours talk time on mobile.

Since coming across blueant a few years ago, I swear by their products and dont use any other bluetooth handfree kits for personal or car use - I have tried a lot of available products on the market over the years, and they all sucked bigtime in clarity/quality compared with blueant's stuff. Am looking forward to getting my hands on one of these in the next week or so.

I'm curious as to why Brian is selling them too.

My wife and I ride (usually separate bikes) and would like to be able to communicate.  Music might be nice too.  Cell phone (via bluetooth) would be a plus as I am "On Call" and am expected to respond within 10 minutes, which as you can imagine can put a damper on going riding.

She rides a '08 Sportster XL1200L (stock with a windshield and 3/4 helmet with shield)
I ride a '95 Ultra (currently the audio package is dead and a 3/4 helmet no shield)

I am not positive, but I think that we would both prefer stereo (2 speakers) as opposed to a single speaker setup.

I'm looking for a dealer where I can try out the Camos (but would need a bluetooth FRS radio), the J&M bluetooth headset (also would need a bluetooth FRS radio).

Well... the research continues.

This is a great product. The intercom works great whether we are riding two up or on seperate bikes. The blue tooth work great with cell phone. Low wind noise and super clear. Got mine new on Ebay.

Ok I'm gonna throw my opinion into the mix.I had an Autocom intercom for a while..the wires to the bike drove me crazy,so I got a pair of the Blueant interphones...at first they seemed pretty good..no cables tying me to the bike and all...HOWEVER...in practical usage they are only good for 4-4 1/2 hours, our rides usually last longer than that so I started trying to have lunch somewhere that I could find an electrical outlet to charge them, but even if I found outlets I didn't stay at lunch long enough to fully charge them all the way so by the end of the day we had NO intercom.
Another problem we had was it seemed like most of the time we were yelling "what" to each other all the time instead of just talking...I thought it was a problem with one of the units so I called Blueant, they replaced one of them..It didn't help so they replaced the other one..still no help. After trying them for about 8 months they finaly gave me my money back on the units.(customer service was VERY good).
I have since gone back to another Autocom set up and I once again am happy(other than the cables). I have tied it into my Road Glides radio(I can control the music and such in my helmets with the handlebar controls) tied in my zumo,my bluetooth phone, and can add bike to bike radios if I want. LOVE MY AUTOCOM!!!
