Kuryakyn LED battery gauge
I installed a Kuyakyn battery gauge on my 02 Superglide today. It fits on the front brake fluid reservoir in plain view. The lights are fascinating. I've got to be careful about watching them instead of traffic.
After a false start, the installation went smoothly. I had planned to run the positive wire into my headlight shell and tap into a headlight wire there. But the grommet at the back of the shell will not allow any other wires to be passed through, for waterproofing purposes I guess. I ended up removing the gas tank dash panel and tapping into the fuel gauge light wire with a press-on connector. The negative wire is attached to a screw on the triple tree. All told it took about one and a half hours to install, or only three times the average install time stated on the package. About par for the course for me.
Everything works fine. The gauge shows 11 volts with lights on but motor not running, 12 volts at idle, and 13 volts at just above idle. That sounds about right to me. It's doing the job, looks good, and at about one-fourth the cost of a Harley analog volt gauge. I'm pleased.
