I have a 2003 Road Glide. Im having problems with the bike getting hot and wanting to idle real rough, In slow moving traffic. I Have installed hooker exhaust and had bike re mapped, even installed a power commander. My oil temp on a 60 degree night doing 65 down the highway is showing 235 dgrees..... is this normal is anyone else having this problem?
Im not exactly sure as to what the normal operating temp should be, but to guess I would say around 225. If you have had your bikes fuel system remapped, is it possible that you have a lean running condition. Running lean will cause excessive heat. Have you had other symptoms of a lean running condition, ie, hard starts, backfires, popping, etc. ?
My '99 Night Train (Stage 1+) liked to run hot ~230 and a local old timer convinced me to change to Royal Purple V-Twin 20W-50 and now it runs right at 200 degrees.... I still may go ahead and put a bigger oil cooler on anyway before the hot summer days come up (110 degrees...)
230-240 degrees would be normal operating temp, with ambient air around 70 degrees.
A good oil cooler will drop the temp 25-35 degrees as long as it's got some air flow.
I'm with Mark- We saw a drop in temp by switching to HArley Synthetic. Buddy has a FatBoy with the same digital temp stick in the tank, and our bike have identical setups. USed to compare temps at stops. Switches to the SYN and my temps are about 20 degrees less at most stops now.... He says it is not worth the cost....but I think it is!

I'm not sure if you were taling to me but I have a HD needle gauge, which I recently swapped it in after almost blowing out a chepo gauge after a 75 to 80 mph run, oil was all over my tank when I pulled in at the dealer, we checked my oil and got a new one off the rack and had 0 problem's since, temp seem's to be running the same.
