Default Tire Recommendation

Just went out to ride my bike and my rear tire was flat. There is a fairly large puncture with a piece of nail sticking out of it. When I called the dealer they said the tire was not under warranty since I didn't buy the extended warranty. I looked up the brochure from Dunlop and it says they don't cover punctures.

Anyway, the dealer said it would cost me $220 to replace the tire with the same one. Is that the best way to go, or should I get a different brand/type?

Thanks,
Barry

I'm about to replace my tires with metzlers. From what I have been told they are a little bit better tire and should last just as long if not longer. A lot of folks are split down the middle on the issue but with the price being very similar I figure I would try the metzlers this time and if I'm unhappy I can always go back to the standard dunlops.

Hope this helps.

Metzlers (888's) will last you longer but theymade with a harder compound. The Dunlops have a slightly softer compound but corner better because of it. Depends how you ride. If you want no more flat tires from punctures, put some "Ride-On" in them...

Thanks.

What's "Ride-On"?

"Ride-On" is a tire sealant you put in your tires BEFORE a flat. Easy to put in, and puncture flats are a thing of the past. Here's a link:

I'm well satisfied with the original Dunlops. None of the Harley models are knee draggers so trying to find the "ultimate" cornering tire seems a littlesilly to me. I figure the MoCo knows what works well. Dunlops work just fine.

I also like the Dunlops. Truth be told, they "feel" better to me for the way I ride. A buddy has the Metzler 888's on his and I do prefer my Dunlops, but he does get more mileage than I do out of a set of tires...

Avon gets my vote. Splits the difference between the dunlops and metzlers. Lasts longer than the dunlops but is softer than the Metzlers. My scoot still has the stock dunlops and I am not liking them at all, always had good luck with avons though.

I bought some chen shin streetshark tires on e-bay . Paid $100.00 for the set. They are very graby and seem to handle steel bridges and asphalt drizzle better than the dunlop tires. They corner very well. I have done 10,000 K on them so far and they still have at least 2/3 or thetread left .. Mark..

I was happy with the Dunlop tires, but due to the strike, couldn't get the rear tire. Went with Metzelers. So far, I LOVE them. but too early too give a good report. Only about 1,000 miles on them.

One thing to consider, if you change tire brands (designs) it's normally a good idea to replace both tires.

Another thing to consider:

DON'T SHOP FOR TIRES AT THE HARLEY DEALERSHIP!!!!!!!! IF YOU NEED TIRES FOR YOUR CHEVY, DO YOU BUY THEM AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP??????

Just think about it....
