I am running S&S 124" with S&S super G, straight pipes, so far the bike is running strong (7,000 miles).  The only thing is during decelerating it back fires.  They said it's normal because of the straight pipes and no baffle.  I get used to it now, and it doesn't seem to cause any problem.

Wow, the stock power is already feels like a train.  It is hard for me to hang on to the ape hanger with WOT.  Anyway, what kinda head works?  What is the estimated gain?

The 124's we have done see 140-145 torque and hp, rev 1-1/2 to 2 seconds quicker and cool down 20-to 30 degrees.

i had a S&S 124 fueled by a davinci G in my '93 FLHS, tons of power, would wheelie three gears without hammering the clutch, smoke the tire with a twist of the wick, i broke it in by the book, and it popped the head studs front & read at 8000 miles.............    it was fun while it lasted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The smoke out of the pipes is black. It has to be the Thunderjet. It only does it at wot.I just might stick a smaller jet in and try it.Now that the 155" is on the road, the 124" just sits in the corner or when I need something for the 155".

the "pop" is -->   http://www.bigcitythunder.com/pages/understanding_exhaust.pdf   --  those pipes are way way to short-- short pipe-- low end-- long pipe  mid to top end---  long pipes create more   AKA- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_cycle  -- columb inertia

RibCracker,I have a Super G on mine, but also have a 45mm HSR.I hear the Mikuni is better off idle than S&S.I wonder if there is a difference at the top end?Do you have an opinion? Dog

not having got the thing on a dyno yet to get any figures...long story but hey theres time...or having had chance to comapre it agaisnt one fitted with the Super G all I can say is the HSR is amazingly responsive. Feels like the throttle cable is contected direct to the rear wheel, there is no lag or hesitaion off of idle, pulls cleanly up thorugh the gears, but ( there always has to be a but) it does pop and bang a little on the over run, wot wise as I have said before bike exceeds 150 MPH  with forward controls and  t-bars and 6'2" 266 lb rider in normal street riding clothes sat upright without any fairings, so dont think I could make it any harder for it. So to be honest I cant see how the S&S would be able to be that much better to make it worth swaping. Really need to get a zr rated tyre on the back before hitting the dyno as I doubt it would be safe with the h rated one on now.

Thanks Ribcracker, mine is very crisp,I guess the only way to really know the difference is to put the HSR on and give it a whirl. When I do if the diffence is great I will post the results.Dog

look forward to hearing what yo find. I do admit coming from a metric background aof raod and drag racing mikuni HSRs were always weapon of choice, also being a slide as oppsed to butterfly carb , once fully open the only thing left in the air flow is the needle where as the S&S stil has the butterfly rod and the flap itself in the air stream.
