Default how wide tire can I put on FXST 2000 ?

I just got a quite good offer for 2000 FXST, so hopefully I'll pick it up soon.
Does anyone know how wide tire I can put on it without changing anything.
I'd like 200. So I if can't put it there originally how much is for wide kit? Do I have to buy a new wheel (wider)?
Thanks.

Are you prepared to cut the rear fender struts off? With the rear fender struts cut, you can put a 18x5.5 with a 180mm tire in there comfortably. You should also switch the rear pulley sprocket and belt to the new thinner 7/8" setup thats used on a few of the new 06' Softail models if you want the wheel properly centered with no offset spacers.

thanks. 180 is enough for me. so I do not have to change the swing arm and any transmission sprocket?
what is the original wheel? does it mean I have to change too to be able put a wider tire on it?

what is your estimation of total costs for this change?

thanks.

Yes, you can use stock swingarm, and tranny sprocket, you should change out the belt sprocket that attaches to the wheel to the new 7/8" thinner model. An OEM runs about $100. And if you want to keep that factory look grab the new upper and lower belt guard that comes on the 06' FXST and FXSTB model bikes. BOth together will run about $75-100 new, or you can do what I did and snag em off Ebay for about $25. Then you will need to get a new 7/8" belt, that will run about $125. Plus your wheel, tire and new bolt on struts and fender(which themselves will run anywhere from $250-$750),or you could use a strutless fender(which bolt on).

Ill toss some pictures on of my setup.

thanks man. this is quite optimistic info. I'm supposed to have my first HD next weekend and this is the first thing I'd like to customize. Does it mean I do not have to worry about brake and brake disc?
Looking forward for some pictures.

you can run a 150 or 160 with the stock set up and not have to change anything just maybe file down the bolts for your struts/fender

150 yes, 160 no, not without compromising proper fender strut/ tire spacing.

BerryCR: You can keep stock brake setup in tact with the setup I laid out. IMO 180 is the true hot setup. Give the bike that added "edge" atitude in the rear, without killing the lines and handling of the bike. Ill be posting up some pics today. My bike is still in progress, but you will get an idea if you like it or not. I can pretty much garentee a "drool" effect from the early pictures. Bike looks tight. Looks factory, yet at the same time has that custom all your own look. Hard to describe, but Im sure the pictures will lay it all out.

You can just buy the stock parts from a Duece. If you buy the kit, it's more expensive than the Duece parts, plus you get chrome with the parts.

He doesnt need to buy any parts from a Deuce. All he would need to do is buy 4 stock parts from the 06' FXST/FXSTB bikes. Belt, pulley sprocket, upper and lower belt guards, then add his own 18x5.5 rim, tire, his choice of fender and struts or fenderless struts.

Like I said - chrome. Maybe he doesn't care, but I figured it was worth mentioning. A buddy of mine has a ST and wanted the wide tire kit from HD, was told the kit was not available with chrome, so he bought Duece parts. Was cheaper and was chrome. Besides, I think he will need a different caliper and the Duece part is chrome.
