I think I'm going to try using other random household cleaning products on mine. Maybe come up with a new cheap myth for cleaning my bike..

I only use Pledge for my everyday bike cleaning, done so for 20+ years.

I also use a high quality wax a couple times a year.

Well I was going to go with bleach, but that's a better idea!

I use some stuff called Protect All, you find it in the little RV section at WalMart.  Works great on everything (chrome, windshield, seats etc...)and you only need a little bit.  I'm pretty lazy and it is a wipe on wipe off kinda thang.....love it.

Will try some pledge though, sounds like good stuff.

Hey guys,

I heard that this stuff works great for protecting the paint on long rides.

what do you think?

I think that whoever told you that is BS-ing you, brah. Surf wax is a hard wax that softens from the friction created by rubbing it on your surfboard. The wax then hardens when the cool water comes in contact with it, giving you traction to stand w/out slipping.

SW has the consistency of a candle...try rubbing your scoot down with candle wax...

And the only way to get it off is with the flat side of credit card. Ask me how I know...

Does dust attract to it or repel?? I'm a little skeptical to use it on my new paint, and chrome. But what about on engines?? I have a natural S&S.

I never understood why folks use Lemon Pledge on bikes. What's wrong with polish? The one spray I will use on my bike is Plexus. I carry a can on road trips to clean my windshield, helmet visor and bug splat on paint.

I used the Pledge (white can) on my Vivid black FXD. It worked better than the spray detailers and was very easy to wipe on, flip the micro cloth, and wipe off/buff. Would use it on a daily basis on all painted finishes, so there was not a lot of build up. I would not use it on an overly dirty bike. That requiers a wash and wax. I have used many other high end products on my bike, and yes, they also work great. But the Pledge is just much easier for everyday use. No problems ever on any surface. I did stay away from the seat, grips, boards, ect. I now use is on my new FLTR, but not as much, as the paint is still pristine and I don't want to rub it very much. I also use a clean CA duster (small) with a very light touch to take off the surface dust only. Again, no rubbing.

I've been using Pledge for years.  Orange Pledge just smells better to me.
Tried it on my Harley when I first got her but it soaked in and looked streaky.  Turns out the paint didn't have a lot of wax on it.  Pledge makes the wax shiny and buffs out great.  Pledge on clear coat doesn't work as well.  The secret might be to keep a good coat of wax on to protect the clear coat and use Pledge to protect the wax.
On the windshield it fills the pours in the plastic and that stops the bug guts from digging in deep.

I almost laughed when hearing about this but if you know me I'll try anything once. I tried it on a small inconspicuous spot on my Harley and was pretty impressed. So I decided to keep going and my bike honestly has never looked better.

Okay, I have a confession to make.  I have never tried Pledge on any of my bikes, but I am willing to give it a try.  Having said that, I was in a boot store several years ago while wearing my black Resistol XXXX (4x) cowboy hat.  The gentleman there reshapedmy hat and afterwards used lemon Pledge on it.  It did a great job on the hat which contains beaver hair and helps keep it looking purdy.  :-)  Oh....and I always felt like a walking Lemon Head afterwards.

I have used Lemon Pledge on mine since I bought it and would not use anything else. Works great on painted surfaces, chrome and the windshield. Carry a can on trips to remove bugs off the windshield.

Per a tip from a biker friend, I started using Pledge when I bought my brand new '69 Norton Commando.  That was a loooooooooong time ago and I've never seen it hurt anything but...

It's no substitute for a good wash if that's what's needed or a good high-quality wax as a base underneath (yep, you guessed it) a quick shot of Pledge every day or two until the next wash-job or wash/wax job.

It's cheap and easy to use, works on anything I've ever tried it on (never have tried it on tires), and it does seem to evaporate after a few days on a black RK in Florida sun .

I shake may head in amazement at the time guys spend washing and detailing their bikes.  I've never washed my bike.  I detail it out with pledge (buy the commercial size at Home Depot).  Takes about 45 minutes; It would be less if I didn't have spoked rims.  Use on everything including the tires.  One cleaner period.  Use old tee shirts and separate ones for the chrome, tins, and tires.

Pledge has been used in the solo force since the 70s makes the motor shine, never heard of issues, with related rubber or seals. I ride with a whole bunch od retirees that will "PLEDGE" to that.

This was popular subject on the VTX Forum. Pledge worked great on the VTX, must be all the plastic parts but it seems a little greasy on the HD. I've used it to quick detail in a pinch, also on boots and leather coats. But I once tried the citrus pledge presoaked wipes, ( on the honda) they suck, don't use them! But regular pledge or lemon is ok, I think we're better off sticking with Meguires or other good detail product.

So help me out here - Pledge in the UK is sold as a furniture polish being good for wooden surfaces.  I've not come across a wooden Harley as yet - though that doesn't mean to say there isn't one.

However we do use Mister Sheen here and the lemon version does smell great - especially if you haven't washed in a couple of days!
