Default Kids on Harleys

Honest thoughts please...

My 3 kids love getting rides. (Ages 8, 5 and 3.)

I'm very careful with the youngest ones but let the 8 year old have more fun.
We do crazy stuff but never over the edge.

I don't have to tell you what the non-biker types think of this.

I can't see it's any worse than taking them in the car, as long as you are very careful and make sure they (and you) wear helmets. It's a great opportunity to start teaching them to be careful and responsible without making them fearful. Despite the current popular thinking, you cannot protect your children from every single danger out there. Better to set them a good example of how to be as safe as possible. Besides, I'm betting the more exposure they have on the bike with you, the better drivers they'll be later.

Well said FLB! I ride my 8 year old all the time. I am fabbing up a removable backrest for him, it will give me more peace of mind! Your right, with more exposure of the do's and don'ts, it will hopefully teach him to be a better driver for the future!

Yep, the small ones work real well on the tank in front of you. That's where my dad started me out. One time on a trip from Michigan to Missouri he let me steer most of the way (atleast at the time I thought I was).

My gf's boys, 6 and 7 get to ride, but only in long pants, real shoes, and a helmet. I think they would like some gloves too... They usually ride the big rig, with a backrest, and we do not go out of the neighborhood yet.. I turn on the hazards, and we don't go much over 20. Trying to get them used to having fun, but being very serious about the fun they are having... Lots of bumps and slow turns, but they LOVE IT!

My 9 year old loves it. After 150 miles on this run she didn't want to go home.

My oldest daughter (12) is to scared to ride. Heck she's afraid of everything.
But my 9 year old.....well she loves to ride but when Mark is giving her a ride she keeps turing around to wave at me .....or anybody else she sees and I am afraid she'll fall off. She makes me to nervous watching her. She's to much of a daredevil for me to ride here.I would have to duck tape her hands around my waist so she would stop waving at everybody.

My 10 year old grandson loves to ride, has been since he was 6. My daughter when we lived in Hawaii, was riding at 7. Problem with her though was she kept falling asleep in the back, while doing the Island circle.
